Greetings, Does anyone own a copy of the George Lauber wheel lock book that is in metric measurements? I'd really appreciate some clear pics of the lock plate drawing.. specifically so I can see what the measurements are.. 🤔 I have the inch converted drawing/book , but most people say there...

What kind of Lock is this.

with the drum, I'd argue not a Mule ear? Muleys have the nipple straight into the barrel.. Looking I'd say its kinda of a sideways Carleton action ( normally Underhammer ) evidence the slight wear just above the one set of engravings? Slide the striker straight back and the action goes from...

So, the Kempton fair is fast approaching. Who is planning to attend? This will be my first trip there. Looking at the schedule, there are a lot of sessions I'd like to sit in on! Trouble is deciding on what and leaving me time to wander? :dunno: Respect Always Metalshaper/Jonathan

    Starting point for lock making

I was taught, make part A.. In this case start with a lock plate. Figure out all the details< hole locations and such, as much as you can, say pan or bolster alignments?> once part A is completed, as far as you need..Make Part B.. complete part B by fitting it to part A < without altering part...

    Starting point for lock making

Just be aware that Lauber makes quite a few errors in his measurements and such. Does the same in all three books. P the Percussion, The Flintlock and the Wheel lock books. I was recently out at the Oregon Gun Makers fair. William Baxter gave a presentation on building wheelies. Said a lot of...

The lost cap thing always amuses me some? I try to custom fit the cones on my Mule ear and Under hammer builds. Frankly, I've lost more caps off a conventional percussion :dunno:

    Chromic Acid Stain

I must've done something wrong. This is my Miss Muley, stained with Magic maple 20+ years ago?? of course I put it on and then blushed it like aqua fortis.. ( Some other builders asked why I did that, frankly :dunno: ) then I added a bit of walnut stain that enhanced the darker curls .. finished...

Can we talk breach loaders here?

curious as to what the thread profile is like, on the breech components. I know its a multiple lead screw, basically 1 turn/1" X11. for some reason :dunno: as a hobby machinist, threads and such are a bit of a fascination to me..

    Navy Arms mule ear rifle

Here is a drawing I made, after a friend and I were done cleaning and working on a Poor Boy. The owner allowed us to take the lock down and take measurements. As you can see, the lock does have a half position on the tumbler..

    Help Me Identify This

Slim, most people don't associate one with the other. The Jenk's used loose powder and ball, while a Merrill was able to accept a paper cartridge/round. all things equal, the Merrill is an improvement. much faster to load and the breech seal is improved. in its original form the Jenk's was...

    Modern shotgun barrel conversion

Early H&R muzzleloaders would fully open, the later ones, would only open far enough to put a cap on.. the O-ring breech plug , of the later ones, would hit into the 'hump' of the frame if there was a delay.. I have two of them ( rifle and shotgun ) one of each version. Respect Always...
