    Barrel twist for deer hunting

You said flintlock so you seem to want to go nice and traditional. You would probably be more satisfied with round balls. That means a slow twist as mentioned. I personally like Maxis and all my rifles are 1:48. It's a decent compromise twist that works well for my needs. If I ever run out of...

Lyman .54 GPR flintlock for whitetail

One of my favorites and I swear (jokingly) that you can hit a deer in the toe nail with .54 and it's going down.. If it's a good price and a good bore don't hesitate.

    What is the best book?

Let me give you the view point from a former novice. After reading here on the forum I purchased a coil spring lock compressor and a "V" spring compressor from TOW. I took close up pics all along the way and disassembled both flint and percussion in coil and V spring locks. I cleaned up and...

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

How do you clean at end of day? Do you take the barrel off and pump flush it in a bucket of warm water + dish soap? If not, you may have accumulated crud in the breech. Just a thought.

    Swivel gun

Well, 1st is the front sight. It swivels left and right with about 47-1/2 degrees of travel. Next is the butt pad. It swivels 180 degrees in case one needs to shoot upside down. It you believe any of this then go and read the jawbreaker post...... and thanks for letting me have a little fun.

Best way to unload after an unsuccessful hunt?

In PA a ML is considered unloaded if there is no cap on the nipple or charge in the pan. I can leave a cap lock loaded all season if not brought inside. I have had problems with flintlocks fusing or not going off so I shoot them into a stump at end of day. Yes, I have to clean them but so what...

    Help With front Sight Height

Just to be clear there was no problem with the factory sights other than my old eyes unable to use them well anymore. The problem I'm am having is self-induced by deciding to put on peeps which I've found has helped my old eyes on my other rifles. The obvious solution is to simply put on a...

Davis replacement trigger set for Hawkins style rifles

I checked my T/C Renegade today. It came new to me with a Davis set trigger. It is very quiet setting the trigger. I also checked my older T/C Hawken and when using the method suggested by P Coffins it worked very quietly..

    Help With front Sight Height

I put a Williams peep sight on my T/C Hawken. With the peep bottomed out I am hitting 9 in high at 50 yds. Looking over the situation I think my solution is to install a higher front sight. My factory sight is 3/8" high measured from the top of the barrel flat to the top of the sight. After...
