November 30 is National Mason Jar Day!

And the pistol target! I am by no means a marksman with a pistol but hey! This is an improvement over last month! I scored 4! Pietta 1851 navy offhand, .451 ball, 20gr fffg goex.

November 30 is National Mason Jar Day!

Not my best shooting this month, guess I'll blame the 30mph wind here in Kansas . I shot this one with my Pedersoli Pennsylvania .50 flintlock. Offhand .480" ball, .015 patch, 60gr ffg goex and a score of 24. I may take a mulligan with my Kibler SMR before the end of the month if I get a chance.

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

Thanks for hosting Gary! I picked up a brass frame pieta 1851 at local gun show over the weekend. We will see if I can get a better pistol target with it! Chris

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

Shot my rifle target tonight. 25yd offhand with my Kibler SMR .40, .395 ball, .010 patch, Mr flintlock lube, over 40gr of fffg goex. Score wasn't quit what MSmith predicted😅 but I'll take the 36 any day! My 3 warm up shots on an orange dot were going about 2" higher than point of aim so I took...

    cheek slapper

I also shoot a pedersoli Pennsylvania in .50cal, yes they can bite. I shoot mine like a Southern gun, getting it a little farther out from my shoulder allows me to get the butt a little higher and get a tighter cheek weld. I also limit the load to 40gr fff or 60gr ff which also limits recoil...

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

I figured why not, I never do a pistol target so let's give one a shot or 6. My only pistol is my .58cal 1803 Harpers Ferry that I built from a pedersoli kit a few years back and had the barrel bored smooth, true to the originals..... And I can't shoot it fer sour apples. So here's how it went...

Wanting a swivel gun or similar

Ive been shooting flintlocks for 2 decades now and have a pair of kibler builds under my belt. One of my other hobbies has me looking for a cannon though. As a member of the local sailing club I think it would be wonderfuly naval to start our races with a cannon shot vs a buzzer. So I'm looking...

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

It's been a while since i've checked in, lots of life events in the last 2 years have left my firelocks hanging on the wall gathering dust. i'm glad to see the monthly shoots are still going on! I had my Kibler SMR out for the 1st time in what seems like 2 years last week just plinking hedge...

    March 2023 Postal Target

Well guys, I just didn't get it done this month and with winds gusting to 60mph or more today it looks like my target would be in the next county before I got a shot off. Go figure, tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful though! Chris

    February 2023 Postal Match

A trick I use when trying to figure out where 50% of the hole is in situations like this is to lay my target on top of a blank target so I can see the intact lines through the hole. Good shooting Richard! Chris

    SMR half cock problem

Does the lock function correctly if removed from the stock? If not: I had the same issue with my SMR and it was entirely my fault. In my case the lock inlet wasnt quite deep enough underneath the bridle area and while tightening the lock screw would pull the pan flush with the barrel it would...

Kibler SMR is Here! (Build Log)

Mine is the same, I left it the way it is because i feel that it adds a bit more protection to the toe of the stock, plus if I ever want to add a toe plate later i'll have a bit of extra material there when I go to fit everything up. Chris

    Unknown Percussion Pistol

a quick internet search turns up T Thomson as a gunsmith in Aberdeen Scotland. maybe others can add more? Chris

    Cock alignment

my Kibler SMR is like this, but with the cock seemingly twisted slightly inboard. Its no problem though, I just set the flint in the cock semi tight and then lower the cock and flint against a closed frizzen to square everything up before final tightening of the jaw screw.
