    Don't Carve That Stock!

And note that not all guns need to be carved! It’s a matter of taste and talent in many regards. Of my various flintlock long guns, my tending favorite is the Fusil de Chase; a very plain and functional gun but with an overall design that is just delightful in my eyes (and not to mention that it...

    Don't Carve That Stock!

Yup. And you can chop up your gun with all the terrible carving you want and make it “yours”. And it will be “special”.

    Don't Carve That Stock!

Carving up a gun stock while sitting around a campfire? A recipe for greatness.

    Don't Carve That Stock!

LOL ! My carving is just “entry-level” stuff. But it does something decorative and not distractive, which kinda is my point.

    Don't Carve That Stock!

Sometimes just a simply inscribed design carved well can be enough to add a nice touch of flair, so I do what I can with some confidence. I am not proficient in skills to carve the incised and relief carvings that I dream of doing one day. But staying in the boundaries of my skill level I can...

    Don't Carve That Stock!

...Unless you are good at it. I've seen a lot of well made rifles, some even with very nice metal engravings, but then come the photos of the cheek piece or whatever, with some terribly done carvings (or more like attempts at carving). Bad carving can absolutely ruin your fine gun. Take the...

    Original Trade Gun/Fowler barrel profile?

I made a Type G Fusil from the Mold and Gun Shop and the 20 gauge barrel was quite thin, though just 40.5 inches IIRC. It's the one on the right; the Colerain barrel on the left. Very lovely gun.

    Shooting a Canadian Militia Musket

I can ask Charlie for the details. It is a Bess but made in Canada.

    Shooting a Canadian Militia Musket

My friend Charlie and I spent the day Sunday shooting a variety of muzzleloader. (Charlie collects and shoots an array of amazing original antique guns). It was a thrill to shoot an actual Canadian Militia Musket circa 1815-20) with the matched Canadian manufactured bayonet. History comes alive...

    Fusil

“If one is referring to a bag or sack to carry all the rest of one's little items, how about,,,, market wallet, split pouch, shoulder bag, snapsack,,,,, or maybe in this case "possibles bag" might apply,,,,, maybe.” Go with “Haversack” 😉

    Parts shortage?

I believe Jim gets his barrels from Green Mountain and rifles those .40 and under. Unless things changed since a year or so ago ?
