Did the unthinkable to my GPR but I love it!

There is definitely a trick to it. But it's hard to practice on anything because the wood will behave differently. Got a coat of stain drying on it now.

Did the unthinkable to my GPR but I love it!

Thanks @Ballshooter I did a search on the Tube and came across that video. Faux Tiger Strip popped up after numerous searches using fake curly maple using torch. Go figure. I tried a test piece of hardwood early this morning. No bueno. I think the gauge wire I was using, or maybe because it...

Did the unthinkable to my GPR but I love it!

Not quite necro... Since the above question was never answered by anyone for some reason, does anyone have a youtube video they followed showing this? I haven't searched youtube yet, I'm not sure exactly what this procedure is called, but rather I thought I'd try here where a couple folks seem...

    Prepping for squirrel hunting …

Right now I'd be lucky to hit a fat raccoon with that .32. Let alone a squirrel next season. It seemed to be shooting so well, too. Today: Three shots touching, but in the middle one flyer 4" away. One by the bull, then three 4" low in a 3" group. So I'm going to French gray the barrel and I...

    Pedersoli Indian Trade Musket questions

I used a spray can of Klean Strip I've had for years. I'm sure I bought it at Ace, but don't know if they still sell it. Spray about a one foot area, wait, wipe down with a green sanding pad while rinsing with hot water. Ace also sells (presently) the green sanding pads... not to be confused...

    Knife Modification

Thanks @TDM Anneal. I like it 👍 I looked and the rivets were pure copper, but next time they are getting annealed. I might just anneal the ones left over.

    Knife Modification

Thanks. No biggie. Could have been a number of reasons. I did say the rivets were long, but until I set them with the rivet set I didn't realize how long. The heads were like countersunk screws, so that allowed more stem to poke through that I originally saw. But once you are that far... And for...

    Knife Modification

Thank, Tim. There are some things I'm happier with and others I'm not. Plus I had to use up my last piece of thick leather  But overall I like this sheath style for the knife rather than the very first sheath I made for it. So it'll do! Plus I learned valuable lesson about hammering...

    Knife Modification

Rivets came in. Sheath Part Deux These rivets were .05 shorter. And since I like the way it looks I'm not fiddling with them ;)

I know. I'll probably put a halogen light on it in the basement.

    Knife Modification

Well I'm just waiting on the rivets from Amazon now. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Also supposed to start raining. That means no outside staining and drying :(

Great idea! They might be the thickest frizzen covers in the world, but that just means added protection :)

    Browning a barrel question

I like this method. No chance of introducing anything to the areas you just took time to degrease.

    Knife Modification

Yeah, I can't live with that. My straight smooth edge went to heck and some of the rivet washers creeped into the belt slot. Even the washers and the head on the backside looked like heck. I've seen some crappy looking rivet jobs on the internet where solid rivets (what we used to call dog...

    Browning a barrel question

I degrease with no chlorine break cleaner and then TSP in boiling water. And +1 on LM. I've never done a barrel, but I imagine there is some kind of plugging that goes on at the bore end and the flash hole.

    Knife Modification

As the saying goes, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I flattened the stems of the rivets more. Hit them with the ball peen and then gave them a mushroom shape with the rivet set. And it pinched the leather tighter where the rivets are. This created bumps on what used to...
