    Favorite Muzzleloader sayings

Had a conversation today where I told a co-worker I needed some input on the history of a sales discussion with our client (I’m in operations) because I didn’t want to go off half cocked. Got me thinking of some other sayings that have muzzleloader origins… Lock stock and barrel. Keep your...

    Advice needed for stock chip

Like the plan to put a little patch. Should the butt plate over hang like it does? Or should that be ground back?

    Advice needed for stock chip

So wanted to get some input on this chipped out part of my stock. Early on had a “can’t have nothing nice” type moment and chipped a small part of the toe. Not even sure when it happened, so unfortunately couldn’t locate the broken chunk. Initially I was thinking about a toe plate anyhow...

    Soft jaws for vise

RobertE....those are the exact plastic jaws I have. I was thinking something similar, but probably just made a set from plywood rather than attaching to the plastic. Figured the plastic might be useful for holding different metal pieces. I'm also thinking I am going to temporarily cantilever...

    Soft jaws for vise

What’s your favorite soft jaws for gripping stock during build? Getting ready for Kibler build. I’ve got a set of plastic ones, but they are pretty beat up from years of mechanics type work….worried they would mark up a stock. Was thinking to make a fresh set with some plywood….curious what...

    Gunsmith of Williamsberg 1969

Pretty awesome. Never saw before, so thanks for posting. I did some reading on him after watching this and saw he basically re-invented hand forging barrels as no one was left doing this at the time. Crazy talent and discipline to a craft…Makes me feel a little inadequate with only taking on...

    Tap or not (powder measure)?

I know consistency is the key...just curious what most guys do when measuring out BP. Do you tap your measure to settle the powder first? Or do you just pour into measure? Or non-traditional and weigh out your charges?

    Kibler Locks

This is me....spent years running TC Renegade & Hawken with subpar performance. I did swap out to an L&R RPL lock on the Hawken and it's been a lot better reliability than the TC stock lock (even with upgraded taller hammer). Just ordered a Kibler SMR .45, excited to see how this will perform.

    Kibler SMR build tips

I just went with the plain maple, no upgrade. Being a finishing Newb didn't want to waste extra bucks on fancy wood if it didn't come out great on my first time. Take some of the pressure off.

    Kibler SMR build tips

Thanks guys, I have watched all the build videos from Kibler and a few others that are out on youtube from other folks. Good to know about being extra careful on barrel removal. I've never done any stock finishing like this before, so that is probably my biggest unknown. I do like the...

    Kibler SMR build tips

Pulled the trigger on a Kibler SMR in .45 yesterday. The wait begins. This will be my first muzzy I've put together, though I've been a wood worker, professional tinkerer, and hack gunsmith my whole life. Thought I'd check for lessons learned. Anything you wish that you knew or would have...

The disaster, the elation and the shame!

Just wanted to say impressive exchange back and forth without getting defensive or nasty on either side. Pretty rare nowadays, especially on an Internet forum. Appreciate the honest discussion. Congrats on the fox. Didn’t know you could post video like that….enjoyed it.

    My 3rd muzzleloader Bull Elk

Congrats! That’s an awesome bull! Enjoyed your story. I love Idaho. I hunted Idaho DIY archery 4 of 6 years, last time being in 2010 ( pre kids). Unit 66a. Some of my best hunting memories of my life chasing bugles on those mountains. Now it’s got so popular have to apply in December to...

    American Woodcock

Congrats on the woodcocks. You guys are next level with the black powder bird kills. Very impressive all the way around. I’ve got a 3 year old pudelpointer. I have a hard enough time killing birds with modern equipment. We’ve only ever flushed Woodcock once. There was a group of three...
