Hello, all. Looking for someone to build a .32 cal percussion Tennessee Squirrel Rifle for my husband's 50th. Anyone know a great gunbuilder? (I really don't know much about this type of gun, so any help you can give me on who to talk to & what I need to ask/be ready to talk about would be really helpful - I'm starting from ground 0).

Thanks!
S.

Tip Curtis has one in stock unless he has recently sold it....32 cal and percussion......wanted it myself, but I shoot flint. call 1-615-654-4445. Tell him Russell McGuire sent ya.

Roger Sells does a similar rifle he is in Monterey, Tn at 1-931-445-3790. he does fine work too.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot -- okay, it's a bad pun, but it was right there :)

Another gunbuilder is Marvin Wotring. He owns and operates
'THE MOUNTAIN RIFLE SHOP" here in Morgantown WEST VIRGINIA.
ph: 304-291-0803. You should call him past 6:00 in the evening. The shop is a clap board 4 room cabin on a hillside
here in Morgantown....to look at it you would say it was built in the 1840's. Marvin can do it all from building you a kit gun to making one up from scratch.
I was there a month ago .....and we talked fer bout 2 hours....I dont think he is too backed up ( usually this is the case with gunbuilders) and you wont have to wait 12 to 14 months to "GIT ER DONE".....
Hope this helps!!! Hubby is gonna be ont HAPPY CAMPER!
.......I wish my wife would git me a .32 !!!!!

Heck, at my age i wish my wife would get me a 32 also. Heck, even a 42 would be ok. Ohh, you guys are talkin' rifles huh. ::

As you said you wanted someone to build the gun, you should
call Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading Inc. Corinth, Ms. 38834 at 662-287-6021. E-Mail www.avsia.com/tvm
I'm sure he can help you.
If he is too loaded with work, you can try Jack Garner, owner of Tennessee Valley Manufacturing.
Jack is the father of the owner of the first TVM listed above.
He is trying to reduce his muzzleloading rifle building and just deal with parts, but I have heard that he will still build a few. (Nothing like having the Teacher build one for you).
Jacks phone number is 662-286-5014. E-Mail at www.Tennesseevalleymanufacturing.com

These companys specialize in building Southern style guns, but they can build Kentucky style rifles too.
One of the best things about them is they produce very good, quality guns at Very Reasonable Prices.
The price will depend on how fancy the wood you buy is and how many fancy things like a patch box or carving you want. The last I heard the prices for a plain rifle would be somewhere in the $800 area.
This may seem like a lot, but a newly made rifle often sells for over $1300 from other builders.

I hope this helps you and the price doesn't drive you off. Every man needs a nice little .32 muzzleloader. :)

Leland Davis from Wells, Ks. is pretty darn good. Besides being a good friend, he's one of the best rifle builders in these parts. In fact I've been talking to him about building me a .54 full stocked flinter with a 40 inch swamped barrel and Siler lock. Should be done in time for fall rondyvoo season.

If you're intersted give me a p.m. with your phone number and I'll send it along to Leland.

WV Scrounger........I've never been able to find his shop in Morgantown.

Ever talk to Dave Motto? He built a fowler for me a couple of years ago......did a first rate job too.
