I have an opportunity to purchase these two revolvers and I would like to get some advise. Basically, if they are real or replicas?

In the pictures of both revolvers, the Remington is on top.

Serial #s on the Colt are 86833. From the googling I did, I cannot find a reference to any #s near these. The cylinder is also marked Colt Patent No 833...again no luck on google.

The Remington looks to be a 1857 model from the pictures i could find.

Any and all help is very appreciated.

If these guns are being offered as an original I would not walk away, I would run.

Colt was a perfectionist and would never allow the markings to have the mis-matching letters and letters not on a straight line as those which are shown in your photos.

The photo that shows the "COLT PATENT..." is totally incorrect. It should say "COLTS PATENT..."
One of my reproduction pistols got that right but didn't have a number. The others intentionally left the area blank or just said "PATENT".

The same thing about the lettering can be said for the markings on the Remington.

The bluing on both guns is new which lowers their value (if they were actually original guns which I doubt).

Run away!!!!

PS: I really don't like your photo site. I could not copy the pictures address and get it to show up on the forum. :(

Like Zoni says, run away.
These are reproductions and not very good ones.
They have been faked up, thats why the names on them are not straight, they were hand done by a not very competent person. The seller is trying to pass off fakes.

Same here. Run like the wind. The '51 Colt Navy should have on the top of the barrel Address Sam'l Colt, New York City. On some, the additional words U.S. America were added. I also looked in a comprehensive Colt history and couldn't find any reference to a patent granted to Colt that began with those numbers.

They look like they were hand engraved like you see on Khyber Pass gun copies.

The writing is hand-chiselled using a tool called a burin or a tap-hammer and cold chisel.

The real deal is most beautifully done - you will hardly see such quality, even these days.

Run away.
