Hello
Here are some pictures of a small Howitzer I built several years ago.
I built everything including the barrel.
The barrel has a 1 3/4 inch bore.

I also built a cannon ball mold. The cast balls weigh 1 pound.

roger that comment NICE JOB
can you send me some moer info on size
and pics or your cariage
Im just now finishing up my 3rd barrel and will soon be biulding another carriage

The carrage is 1/2 scale pack carrage.
built from plans by Antique Ordnance Publishers
avalable from DGW.
Let me know what pictures you want and I'll PT them to you.

SC: Wow, you did a nice job with the whole thing. Barrel is lovely, and so is your carriage. What steel did you use for the barrel?
I have a golf ball-caliber mountain howitzer barrel coming soon and thought I would fab the carriage based on the Second model prairie if I'm remembering this right. For wheels, I'm leaning toward non-authentic eight-felloe wheels from the Amish site, mainly because I can afford them.

Thank you everyone!
The barrel is 12L14 DOM tube. 4 inch OD.
The powder chamber-breech plug is threaded 2x16 and threaded into the tube. The plug-chamber and tube were champhered and welded together. Next a 5 inch diameter plate was welded over the plug to the rear of the barrel.

To build the trunnions I cut a piece of 2 inch OD round bar a little longer than 4 inches. I faced both ends in the lathe then turned both ends down to a diameter of 1 3/8 inch for a length on 1 3/8 inch. I then cut the bar in half. I then put both pieces in the vice of my milling machine clamping on the 1/ 3/8 inch portion. I centered the pieces under the head of the machine than used a boring head set to do a 4 inch bore and cut a concave in each piece to match the barrel. I then used a fixture to hold the trunnions in the correct place and welded them to the barrel. I then spent a week with a drum sander on a Dremel tool to smooth out the welds.

I gave a demonstration the other day and thought some of you would like to see my Howitzer in action.
