A new hand cannon with 12" Colerain barrel in .62 cal smoothbore, L&R lock and a special stock. Since I first wanted to have this gun built, I was concerned about the number of heavy caliber pistol that would crack the stock. So this one has a special stock. It is walnut, for want of a better term, plywood. I slabbed walnut to 3/16" thick (+/- a little) and then glued it up to make the stock, alternating the grain directions. After rough cutting it, I sent it to the builder (Mike Lange) and he inletted the hardware and finished the stock, back to me and I then rusted the hardware and burnished it with steel wool for an old look. Pictures don't really show how "old" the hardware looks. To get the full octagon barrel that I wanted it was necessary to buy a long Colerain barrel and *gasp* cut off 12 inches. There is still enough left to make a nice lightweight fowler. I made up a quick holder for loading and first chance I get, I will be out to the range to try it with shot and PRB. Naturally I'll tell you what happened after I try it.
