Pyrites

What are your sources for good pyrites?
I bought some a while back that came in big nodules that had the squared edges jutting out of the mass. These did not work well for me I could not get 10 shots off before the pyrite crumbled away. Some did not hold out for 5 shots. I would like to see sources and results from various sources. I would not mind seeing a picture of the
striker flints cast in lead!

Forget the striker flints. They are completely wrong for the action of a wheellock. And you will get one shot per flint or pair of flints.

Piryt - struktura pirytu i jego mechaniczna odporność na "mordercze" koło to rzeczywiście problem .To nie jest tak że skupisko drobnych kryształów pirytu jest złym pirytem do wheellock a duży jednorodny kryształ musi być dobry,wytrzymały.
Trzeba kupować piryt z różnych miejsc , wytrzymałość pirytu bywa różna w zależności od stanowiska z jakiego pochodzą.

Leon, There was a fellow a while back who posted pictures of his flint striker holder. He had extended the end of the holder( the end facing the touch hole ) so it was lower than the flints. This lower part deflected the blast from the touch hole around the flints. He said he got many shots with this set up, I figured it was worth a try with my bad luck with pyrites. They don't call it Fools Gold for nothing!

I thought about making a rasp lock using the flint strikers because it would be the same action they are designed for: slow pull, rough rasp, lots of downward pressure. And the striker would not have to be in front of the flash hole.

Piryt musisz kupować z różnych złóż.Nawet jakość pirytu z tego samego miejsca - złoża bywa różna.
Nie ma reguły aby skupisko małych kryształów było lepsze niż duży jednorodny kryształ.
Spróbuj tłumaczyć na hiszpański - chyba będzie lepiej.

Pyrite have to buy from different złóż.Nawet quality of pyrite from the same place - deposits may vary. There is no rule that the cluster of small crystals was better than a large homogeneous crystal. Try to translate into Spanish - I think it will be better.

I didn't try translating into Spanish, but I think Google translate seems to do a fine job. Of course, not knowing Polish, I can't fully judge. :thumbsup:
