Here are a few picks of my 1835 Mountain Howitzer mounted on a Pack Carriage. The barrel is poured Naval Gun Bronze with a correct chamber. The bore size is 4.65”.

Canister rounds are deadly. I use 125, 69 cal round balls packed in sawdust. With 8oz of powder charge. It is a deadly cocktail and at 100 yards out and 40 yards on either side of the tube, it makes for a deadly kill zone. The pattern spreads out in a cone, and with big 69 cal round’s it cuts a deadly path.

With the Napoleon tactics used at the time and marching shoulder to shoulder in close formation, it would have been a deadly weapon on the battlefield during its service days. The Mountain Howitzer could quickly breakdown to be carried on mules or drawn by a two mule or two-horse team on the Prairie Carriage.

The Mountain Howitzer was one of the longest serviceable artillery pieces in the 19th century.

Here is a photo of the same tube mounted on a Prairie Carriage.

Artillery Crew in our Confederate Texas uniforms in New Mexico at the Gloretta Battlefield. Notice the old adobe style church. The church was over 140 years old.

Nice set-up. It looks like the same one that was listed on eBay sometime last year.

I have sold cannons and cannon implements on eBay and Gunbrocker in the past. You just need to be patient and wait for the serious buyer. I do believe I had one of my cannons on eBay last year that was mounted on a Pack Carriage. The Parks in MD bought one MH about a year ago.

I do not reenact anymore and live firing in the desert is shrinking because of desert off roading and tighter regulations because of the illegals. I just shoot my smoke pole at the local range.

Since you guys like the artillery photos her is a picture of Walt Nichols of the 1st Texas Artillery firing his 6 pdr at Pioneer Village Living History Park in Northern Phoenix, AZ.

This is 8 oz of 1 Fg Powder blank round. You can see from the blast that even blank cannon rounds are serious business and safety is the primary concern of the gun crews.

You are talking about $10,000 for a Bronze Tube 4.625” bore on a Pack Carriage and built to original specifications.

Before this thread disappears off the bottom of the page I have to say that is a really nice looking piece. Makes all the difference when someone puts the time an effort in to doing a proper field carriage

Several years ago I was taking a tour of the town museum in Sheldon, Iowa with my brother-in-law, now deceased. He rounded the corner and was saying, "..and this is the little cannon they shoot on the 4th of July." You guessed it, similar piece in almost as good shape. Been figuring out how to sneak it away ever since!

wow- that's very impressive (and i'm qualifies on the M60-A2 as well as the M551 Seridan, so i've seen my 'fair share' of muzzle flash!)

nice photo!
