I like Rice, but iv never had a bad barrel from any of the big makers. Most barrels from any company will out shoot most shooters.

Large, Rayl, Rice, Getz are my favorites, but I've also had good luck with Douglas and Colerain.

My vote goes for Long Hammock. I have built several guns using Long Hammock barrels and they have all been tack drivers. A close second would be Getz. I have used them, too but still prefer the Long Hammock barrels. To each his own.

Mike, my Getz barrels came on used rifles. They are fine barrels indeed--but I didn't have to wait for them. :rotf:

What's my favorite brand of bbl and why? Presently Rice is the bbl of choice...excellent bore, decent outside finish not requiring a whole lot of draw filing, correctly breeched and the availability is good. Have used Getz and Colerain and in fact my first 4 LRs used Getz bbls but seeing I'm 77, the wait is waaaaay too long. The Colerain bbls that I used were OK bore wise and breeching, but the outside required a lot more draw filing than Rice.. I'm done breeching bbls so GM isn't in consideration. I wonder if the Getz name has some sort of mystic because they're just as good Rice.... which is actually a compliment.....Fred

I like Getz and Colrane, I have used Douglas, GM, and a host of imports. I suspect that all would work well for the average hunter/shooter, the barrels I really do not care for are the tubing ones that are made into oct/round but make the oct section straigh and do not start any taper till after the wedding bands, the sight picture on these barrels just seems odd to me when not using a rear sight.
