I`d like to build a canon of the design in the video in this link. Does anyone have the plans or good pics of such a canon.
Thanks

this one is a swivel cannon on the home page, http://blackpowder-cannons.com/index.htm

now these guy make one from scratch, they forged the barrel with rings and straps and the breach 'yoke' for the chamber.

this is a better view of the reload. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kog4GVJlFZI&feature=related

this one seems long but it is a good one of museum pieces

Thanks mckutzy  is that first one your web site? Very helpful info

oh no, unfortunately it isnt, there was a thread the other day on cannons, this was the home page of the website in one of the posts.
I have always thought that this one of the best cannon designs out there, the one's that people have made, i wonder if there is any shot fired in these arms, a fully operational cannon, or even a swivel gun with ball would really cool.

so pitchy...man with the tools and time on his hands,.... when do we see smoke...  :hatsoff:

I really like this design at this link.

In the spring if not sooner i`m going to fire up my sawmill and saw out a couple tall beams that then can be cut to that shape.
I priced tubing yesterday at 30 bucks a foot so i`m going to look around for a while for some used stuff.
All I can say is the want is there, now if the wanted is found it`ll be a go.

Whoops forgot, I have a set of steel wheels and axle, the wheels are about three foot tall and around 3-4 in. face. Do ya think they would work ok for this project?

wow that is a very good shot there, hahaha, very nice. u should with a few other pics be able to set up and get ur own one built soon. u might be able to contact them for some info on the pieces they have, see if they will help u in you endevor to build one the same.
I know that the upper pivoting portion of the carriage has to endure alot of strain to absorb the recoil, they infact have this as what look like a single piece of wood, now that not a problem to make it.. one or several pieces depending on your resourses.
They have what looks like just straps to hold the barrel down to the 'cradle' and the breach is hammer wedged against the end of the barrel. if it were me doing this I would probable have the barrel with its own straps or some how atached in a basically permanent setup, i wouldnt want the barrel to go sailing down range somewhere after i touched off a shot

Building this and making it a golf ball bore size, or like a 1# ball size would be really nice.
with that size the weight is there for the piece but when u have to haul it home it wont be super big or heavy.

Im not too sure what steel wheels are to tell u the truth. I havent any idea what u would use on a piece like this, u could if it works, or not really care how accurate the piece is, but then who cares really, it make noise smoke and ur having fun...

The steel wheels are spoke wheels that should work. This canon will be similar but not exact to the one in the picture.
I`ll see if i can find the wheels under the snow and get a picture.

Here`s a pic of the wheels, the bigger set of course.

I kinda hate to split up those engine cart wheels and axles so i`ll look around for a while and see if I can find something else. Otherwise they be it.
Any and all advice is welcome.

I know how you feel Lenn. School and crappy weather is keeping me from my projects right now. :shake:

We`ll get er done, last winter we sawed the skids to move the cabin. Cold for next week though, maybe after that. I`m anxious to get started.
