Had to make another, having to much fun.
This one is 44 caliber.
Overall length is 41 in.
Tiler is 34 in.
Barrel is 4 1/2 IN BORE, overall length 7 in.
Used a 15/32 drill bit for the bore, in good steel it drilled real smooth.
44 ball with a pillow ticking patch over 30 grains of FFF.

Here`s some pics shooting it.

Pitchy, what sort of gear are you using to turn these? I'm wondering what type of lathe I'd need to do my own. Could you do these on a small benchtop lathe? :hmm:

Thanks gents :hatsoff:
My small lathe is a Jet, 10 1/2 in swing, 2 foot centers.
As long as you can chuck the rod and have enough length between the rod and the drill bit in the tail stock .
Of course ya can make short gonnes too if the lathe is to short.
Lathes are spendy and it`s hard to advise ya on which one to get. If ya have a machine shop in your area maybe you could go talk to them about it.

Pitchy:

Since the building bug has hit ya, ever think about making a Hakenbüchse (Hook Gun)? :hmm:

Teleoceras, i was just looking at those the other day. Give me a run down on how they`er made, is that strap hook all that holds the barrel on. What caliber are they?
Overall dimensions?
Thanks.

Hurry with that info i`m almost done. :haha:
Is there a wedge under the barrel in the hook, what`s on the end of the ram rod.

I figure a picture is worth a thousand words for the dimensions.

She is a .75 and the brass thing a the other end of the drivel is the built in cleaning jag. The shape of that jag is a match for the interior shape of the breech end of the bore.

As you can see on the bottom of the stock, there is an additional screw to help keep the barrel in the stock.

Mind you that this was a Hussite Handgonne built to be used in a war wagon. So these little beasts are muzzle heavy.

Hope this helps!

Ain`t got started yet , wet snow shoing today maybe tomorrow.

Teleoceras is there a metal piece that is cross ways under the stock where the wedge goes?

Yes, there is a small metal piece that is screwed into the stock. The slot in the bottom is just big enough to slide the hook through it. It is protection for the stock when I hammer in the wedge.
