Might not be a bad idea to thoroughly check out what your getting into. After attending several years, I got told this past week that a self propelled device is out of the question....handicap or not.....I would have to pull myself around in a wagon I suppose.....kinda chintzy for an organization that touts itself so highly.

Since this event is not too far from me, I am interested in attending during the public days. How "family friendly" is it? I have 2 year old and 4 year old daughters.

Other than good walking shoes, any suggestions on what to bring?

It is a BIG camp. Bring comfortable shoes...lots of money and a camera. You will see many different time periods from the 17th. century to the Single Shot types. Though it is touted at the Fur trade erea.....there is lots to see. :results: :imo:
I will be there starting on the Wed.... :shocking: :eek:I hope, through the next Sunday. Haven't spent the whole week or more there in years.

Go to their web site to give you a preview of what goes on.

Not trying to start a flame but if it is a public event they can't stop you under the law - it's called the Americans With Disabilities Act......
An attorney mentioned this on another site a while back - invitation only is another thing all together but again if it's open to the public they MUST allow you and whatever is needed to help (in fact they should probably under the law even make it user friendly - i.e. ramps etc.)
May not be worth the effort though and personally if they're that "serious" then the heck with it.....

My wife and I made the trek to the Alafia (first time) and had a great time. Thanks to the Florida Frontiersmen for hosting a great event!

BTW - I did see a fellow using a self propelled device at the Alafia. He was there all week.

Did'ya stop and say "HOWDY" to (our) Ms. Tipis, while'ya were ther???? ::

Did see one person from this web site :peace:, if some of you saw me at all, one day I was wearing a beaver top hat with a special feather hanging from the top and blouse with lots of silver broches. Another day I was in a Blue Spanish outfit with red and white undress. Other than that, I was in camp typing on my little computer....thanks to a small car battery :what: :what: Have a picture of that with the "machine" and freezing to death. :results:  :youcrazy:

Had a great time...so many time periods to look at including Hippy. Hey...it is a "SHoot" :shocking:  not so much a REndezvous. Anything realy goes....and you go to have a good time. :relax:

Next year I do want to shoot my gun and bow. By then I should be able to walk a longer distance. :haha:

Planning now for the Southeastern...tent, tipi, tent, tipi....:what: Will be giving a talk on the Primitive tipi of the Rendezvou Period. Lots of good information for those who make it.

Oh!!!!:: no whipped cream and strawberries this time. Darn. ....just toooo cold and I didn't bring that special dress. Maybe next year. But I do have permission to bring my full Crow saddle outfit and dress to do a ride thru camp. Now that will be a site.

:results: :imo: :m2c: :what:

Oh!!! Gawd...you rememberd. :haha:

I used the table cloths to cover the gaping holes from the high wind and cold. So they became more of curtains than the tent. Got a few orders for Pizza. :results: :shake:

Pichers, pitchers, pitchers,.... we "need" pitchers!! :haha: :haha: :haha: :applause: ::
