I just looked at the early wheellock post and see that the pan is made of brass. The only steel they would have had would be high carbon steel. So it looks like the brass pan was used so the carbon steel could machine the pan.
One could even use soft copper for the pan, and easily machine the race for the wheel. There is no stress on that pan. Food for thought.

I like that idea, but I've never seen a brass wheellock pan. Not that that means a whole lot.

Anybody knows the name of the delevery company they use? the gime to me a track number but without the firm :surrender: !

I just received a package from them two days ago, but already threw out the packaging. I know they ship to the U.S. by AirSure, but I'm not sure of the company.

I received the rest of my parts that were missing, so now I have no excuses. I'm making good progress though. Installed the dog and dog spring already. I quenched in oil and then tempered the spring in my oven on self-cleaning setting and it seemed to have worked well.
