I never saw a covered barre also, but thats colts #1 the guy puttng these on left out the 51 Navy with 12" barrel and looks kike Lymaqn sight up front and a sight in back that starts from a few "s from cyl to close to all the way over it (cyl) with a big peep hole it was the first true tryat Colts adding a stock. thanks for the good piece of history with the post FW. nice pistols.
He got wise to those enclosed nipples and the shielded chambers before they went into production. Ethan allen left the cones enclosed which probably accentuated the tendency to fire off all of the barrels like a syncopated machinegun. Combine that with a plate over the chambers and the revolver takes on a certain grenade-like aspect.
