Let's take a picture tour of the 12-Pounder US Napoleon Cannon...

The Napoleon is one of the most graceful of all cannons, well balanced and used on both sides of the Civil War...

Amen! They are beautiful indeed, but can't hold a candle to Dave's 3" Ordnance Rifle at over 300 yards! Dave could keep'em in a wash tub at 500 yards...literally! But then again, 3 inchers weren't for diddly when the chore was "counter-battery". Those projectile would just bury in the dirt unless they hit something solid.

Couple years ago while we were visiting the wife's kin in N.W. Iowa, the brother-in-law was giving me the cook's tour of the local museum. Down in the basement we rounded the corner and I came face to face with a M.1837 Mountain Howitzer! Holy Quacamole, Batman, a pre-M.1841 too! They trot it out every year for Watermelon Days or something equally silly...wonder if they'd figure out who took it if it suddenly disappeared?

It is so tempting, I know how you feel ::

Many centuries ago my town lost it's natural habour in a storm. Deprived of an honest living the locals took to smuggling and wrecking instead.

The bay has many cannon in it and it would be so easy to send a diver down with a bit of rope and a few lifting bags. But you ain't supposed to:nono:

Of course, if you're of a devilish turn and I pass this along only as a devilish good time...a small clump of carbide in a condom with a touch of water in the bottom pushed into the bore of the cannon sitting on the town square followed by a lit cigarette laid inside the muzzle will give you time to leave the area before BOOOOMMMM!!!!! :blah: Hopefully, said cannon isn't aimed toward buildings with a lot of big windows! Things can get real serious quick!!

Wes were you cannon shooten about 3 weeks ago out at Fort Hood, Texas with the SVC........we had a 3in Ordinance rifle out there......I helped crew the 6 pounder from Austin Capital Guards.........Deo Vindice........john......

Nope, haven't had any good fun like that for a few years now! May have been old Dave and his 3 incher. If he shot the center clean out of a wash tub at 600 yards, I'd say it was him!! :peace:
