Mr Williams is likeable enough...seems honest and fair. His work is comparable to Jackie Brown....not what I would call really fancy and neat, crisp, clean, but workable. I doubt he will ever be classed among the premier makers.

One difference is that a normal working man with a family can afford a rifle from Early Rustic Arms. I would rather go there than Cabelas catalog. :m2c:

I have heard comments about the quality of his finish work. That was from some of my anal retentive reenactor friends that I normally ignoe anyway. In fact, it might be considered a recomendation!!

If you have ever seen an "origional" longrifle you realize that "finish" was not the same to the old timers as it is to us.

He would probably sell you a gun in the white and you could finish it to the desired state.

Terry at Naragasset Arms is selling a poor boy rifle for $800 +- the last time I checked. You might try him. He has less waiting time than a lot of the builders.

Amen brother on the "Anal Retentive"!! Some of the fellows that are trying to "further the cause" actually hurt the cause by acting as if you must take out a second mortgage for your hobby! Most of the average people can't be PC all the way and only have a certain amount they can justify spending. Alot of people get turned off right from the start.

I've looked over the ERA and Naggasett sites and they both have nice looking, serviceable weapons. I've been considering one of the ERA's, just waiting till there's enough in the piggy bank to slaughter it!

As to Retentive reenactors, yup, ythey turn a lot off, I do ACW as well and you want to see some equipment snobs! Ok, my Columbus depot jacket will be sewn by me, and the material costs for the coat is about 60.00. Many have told me unless I have one of XYZ's jackets, it'll never be "right".....well, I can't see paying 400+ for a jacket from XYZ......I think too many think they have to have goods from the reccomended sutlers, and that can run way more than you'd care to spend! My 11 year old is really into history ( wonder where he got that from?)and we do ACW together and shoot together......and while we like the weapons associated with ACW, he thinks there's nothing 'cooler' than a flintlock! :D

i agree with bucky and cheyenne.my wife and i tried sass shooting a few years back.
even though we had a greaat time,we kinda got turned off when after attending a couple of shoots people were constantly trying to get us to buy our outfits from a certain store,i guess they didnt like our home made outfits . i could have bought clothes at sax fifth ave with thier prices .i would sooner put my money into powder and ball .at least i would have more fun, besides thats what were there for aint it?????

:agree: :m2c:  :yakyak:

I just checked out Naragansette Armes website. They have some neat looking stuff too. Their prices aren't too bad considering others I've seen. Also they are from God's country (Kentucky).
