Ya'll ain't paying attention, dump all the mythological concoctions and even the Ox Urin for the International Team of Fact Checkers has found, through good sources, that Bear Urin is KING of rust prevention. Grizzly Urin topped out best with Panda Urin coming in last. But don't bother with Trash Panda Urin, it's fake bear.

I have used both TC number 13 and Hoppes BP bore cleaner with good success. I use just standard gun oil after cleaning. For long term storage, RIG gun grease is about the best you can get.
Your forum name makes me question your choice of rust prevention…
-Red, not mentioning his own forum name…

I think Hornady One Shot is a case lube. Maybe there are two different products
You are correct sir.
Gun cleaner and dry film lubricant- black can

Case lube- red can

Both use the name brand “one shot”.

Check the photo in the article to see the one shot can.

I exaggerate cause guys exaggerate about WD-40. I used it for 40 years never saw it gum up
I have but not very often. I use the stuff for what it was intended, W ater D isplacement 40th Formula... so I use it when I'm out in wet weather with a gun or rifle, but I clean up the stuff when I get home too. NOW 3-in-1 oil will positively turn into hard plastic over time. I just helped a neighbor save a vintage modern pistol that was seized up, by submerging the pistol without the wood grip panels into a container of Ronsol, lighter fluid to loosen up the 3-in-1.

yes I have found that with 3-1 oil but that oil never gets the bad rap that WD-40 gets

WD40 causes my gun to miss what I’m aiming at!
-Red, using poor excuses…
Naw, those are the evil demons that run up and down the barrel swatting at the ball as it comes out.
A wise old Native Indian once told me; "Use bear oil on your barrel, the evil spirits will not be able to grip the barrel and will fall off, and dangle some talismans to scare the from trying to jump back on"

*note the talisman hanging mid way on my barrel

I KNEW it wasn’t me!!! Awesome! Now if I can find a bear to make me a talisman, and find some Indian Oil…
-Red, about to start shooting better…

So, it sounds something like what I observe with bicycles: Just use something! WD40 is OK, crankcase oil is OK, bear grease is OK, nothing is a problem.

I have a customer who restores priceless Japanese swords. He uses drug-store mineral oil (the unadulterated laxative) as a preservative, but recommends cleaning and recoating every few years. If you think about it; mineral oil is just very highly processed crankcase oil. It is millions of years old (so its stable) and has no corrosive or questionable contaminates and its cheap.
