Color to Tru Oil?

Agree with @Flintandsteel because I've done it with Minwax "Tung Oil Finish" to "cheat" a finish stain color one way or another, and TruOil is a similar product, so it should work just fine. Although TransTint is billed as "water-based", it has some component in it that enables it to be mixed into an "oil-based" product to a certain degree.

A note of caution: one drop of TransTint goes a long way and is enough to effect a considerable color change in your finishing product, so give yourself some practice mixing it first. Another caution: it gets into everything and goes everywhere, so be cautious about how and where you use it.

A tint in the finish won’t change the color of the wood. Just the color of the fin on top of the wood.
Correct. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

By "cheating" it I just meant that if he wanted the color resulting from the staining process to be a little redder, he could do it by adding red tint to the clear finish.
