Good morning . I have shot percussion muzzleloaders off and on for upland game , but now have a John Manton 16 ga double barrel to try out. I am working on fixing a period case and accessories for the gun which I will use this fall for pointed sharptails, Huns, and pheasants. I'm not worried about bag limits as you might guess. I pester ruffed grouse with a 16 bore flintlock. Lots of fun and a very occasional kill. Sadly, I haven't flushed many in the last few years. Coyotes or some other factor has dwindled the local grouse population.

It certainly wasn't me.
 
Welcome to the forums is your Manton by John or Joseph is it percussion or flint either it will be from a top class maker pleased to see you use it for game it is what it was made for one pheasant shot with a muzzle loading is worth ten with a modern gun Enclosed are images of my Manton sxs flintlock.

It has taken me a while to navigate this website. Still, after a week or so, cannot post in the Wanted column.
Feltwad, your gun is like mine and I am looking for a similar case. Mine in a 16 bore, John Manton, flintlock, shotgun. Your case is what I am trying to achieve. The gun has 32” barrels. Do you have an idea about period accessories ? Thanks for all of the replies and sorry to be so tardy.
 
I have two vintage cases I found at local gun shows. Pure dumb luck. One was rough and I had it restored.
I'd suggest: gun shows, Craigslist for your locale and surrounding areas, sale ads on this site and similar sites. If your local paper lists auctions/estate sales watch them for firearms and attend when you see signs.
 
Yes the restoration was very well done. That was some time ago. It was done by a woman who was in, I think, the Midwest. I no longer have her info but probably found her in the old, defunct Double Gun Journal. When I get the chance I'll peruse a couple of issues and maybe find her. I googled to no avail, although there were others who do the work.
