I printed my target but didn't read the directions. Since most the previous month's were 10 shot matches I just kept shooting! Hahaha
I was happy with my target even after I disqualified it so I feel like sharing it. I'll get another target printed and try again for an official score.
My target started off fantastic with 3 in the penny and 2 in the pig.

Off hand
58 Colonial
.570 WW .015 PT
45gr 5fa Goex
10 shots
NO Score

Not sure if I’m going to be able to shoot this months target. I took all my stuff out to the range last week to shoot this months target. After I unloaded everything and put the target down range, I took my rifle out of the caring case only to see that the barrel wedge pin was missing. I had lost it a couple weeks ago and had ordered a couple spares. They arrived but I forgot to put them in my shooting range bag. Oh well. Better luck next month as I am having minor knee surgery this week. Good luck to everyone

I can't believe it's May 1 already! April zipped by too quickly. Hope that all members who live up in the snow will have better shooting weather in May.

Since May 23 is Lucky Penny Day, this month's target will be a contest to hit the penny. Shoot 5 shots at 25 yards offhand for rifle. Pistol shooters shoot from 15 yards.

Hits inside the penny are 10pts. Anywhere else in the body scores 5 pts (the tail doesn't count).

1/2 of the ball diameter must be inside the scoring area to count. Please try to post pics of your equipment along with your target and write your score on the target. This will be a reentry match - shoot it as many times as you want but only post your best target.

Hope you enjoy this and I look forward to seeing some good scores with this target - I think I will be able to see it better!

Gary
I enjoy the monthly target offer, however the large areas of total black or other solid colors steer me to not participate that month. Yeh, I’m a ink cheapskate!

Gary, I shot another target off the bench using x-sticks for a rest, elbows unsupported. 25 yds, score 35. I ran out of black ink so the target background is white.

.54 cal Fusil Fin Smoothbore
.530 RB
.018 patch with Ballistol/water lube
90 gr Goex 2F, 2F in the pan

After viewing PK's target, I decided to try my 20ga. NW trade gun as I hadn't fired it in +1yr. I wish I could say I did well, but the results were just plain embarrassing. Charitably, I scored no more than 20 pts. on the better of the two targets, even with a direct hit on the penny. Because the target was so poor, I won't post it. However, I discovered that raising the charge from 70gr. -> 80gr. GOEX FFg with a patched .598" RB helped raise the point of impact. I think I'll try this month's challenge once more, with something, shall we say, more appropriate?

I think that any target with a smoothbore is a good target😉. I find the same thing with increasing powder charges with my smoothbores. Better groups, especially at the longer ranges. The only problem for me is that the bigger charges get a little punishing.

Surprise, surprise! I got out to the range today and tried to "put some money in the bank," but with a revolver. Not much joy here, but it was fun trying. I used my Ruger NMA with .457" RB's and 30gr. FFFg (GOEX) with a lubed felt wad under the home cast RB. With Six Shot nipples there were NO failures to fire. As you can see below, hitting the penny was more difficult than it seems + there's a strategy in attempting this one. To wit, if you aim directly at the penny, and shoot high, you get 0 points. If you aim lower, you may hit the penny for 10 pts., but will likely hit the pig and score 5 pts./hit. I tried both strategies, but what you see below is my best offhand effort. If I have the time, I think I'd like to try this with a rifle.

All, You know after firing my Ruger Gov't. Model .22cal. target pistol over the winter at an indoor range in FL, other pistols seem light by comparison and that certainly applies to the Ruger NMA. Speaking of which, the indoor range I just mentioned had a new Colt 2nd Gen. 1860 Army for sale. After shooting the Ruger target pistol, then handling the Colt repro. I was surprised by how light it was. It also had a gritty trigger: For $700 (unfired) you'd think they (Uberti) could have done a better job with that. Lastly, it was a pleasure to shoot outdoors in bright sunshine instead of an indoor range with dim lighting.

Today I tried my .40 caliber poor boy flintlock off the bench. First two shots on the penny, the 3rd grazed it but not enough, the 4th was low and in the pig and #5 was above the penny. So my score wasn't any better then my off hand shooting.

Some days we got it and some days we don't!
