Love Ballistol and Hoppe's as well. Maybe one day, Ballistol will come out with a hanging air freshener like Hoppe's did.

Always trust a fella who smells like Hoppes #9 fore he is most likely in the same mind set as you.
I drove in to a REALLY nice spread on the Suwannee River a couple days ago. About two miles of riverfront from the time you entered the main gate, past all the security cameras, and beware of dog signs, trespassing will be met with armed force, yada yada, to grind two stumps. You just drove and drove through woods, until it opened up to this incredible horse farm, log cabins, big house… beautiful place. Big money. Was met by a guy that obviously saw me coming in on the cameras. He introduced himself as “The Manager” of the property. He smelled strongly of Hoppe’s #9. I know what he was managing, lol!
-Red, not wanting to get shot…

I have, while in a hurry, just ran a soaked patch of Ballistol down the bore. And wiped around the lock area. Everything was fine until I had time to properly clean.

"Project Farm", a YouTube channel, does excellent comparisons on many items and products...Sorry to say, Ballistol did not fare too well against its competition.

I do use it in both spray and non-spray, in fact I bought a gallon of it from a link supplied on this forum. I will not abandon it for cleaning BP firearms (moose milk) but there are better products available. I would imagine that I am not unique in that I have MANY gun cleaning, lubrication and rust preventative products on my shelves. Ballistol among them but , well, it has its place and King of the Hill is not its place.

Ballistol has been compared to other products many times and the results have been posted here and many other places.

I have told this story before and will one more time.

When starting in the BPCRS game several years ago one shooter amongst us would get back on target in one or two shots after cleaning between relays while those of us using Rem-oil and different gun oils would take five or six shots. He told us he was using Ballistol, short story we tried it, it worked and when your shooting a timed relay those extra 4-5 shots eliminated really make a difference.

I did not care how it smelled, it worked. Now I have got to the point I like the smell and you do not have to worry about getting it on the wood or leather or pretty much anything.

I wonder about people who can not stand the smell, I have been around some REALLY smelly stuff, (dead stuff, anhydrous ammonia etc.) Ballistol doesn't even register on the really smelly chart.

I agree. I’m a taxidermist. Ballistol is perfume compared to some of the treats people bring me.
I clean my guns in my shop. After I’m done and go outside and then come back in, I love the smell that awaits me. The sulfur, ballistol, barricade, wd40. The combo is great! Truly I think it’s the sulfur smell mostly.
