Went ahead and picked up an 1851 Navy 36. (Pietta). Ordered a set of slixshot cones. Cant tell if that feeling in my gut is excitement, or anxiety? Either way, looking forward to a range day.

Today was the first time I picked one up. It's true when you hear a guy say "they point like your finger". Definitely will be filing out the rear sight notch. My eye just laughed at me when I got a sight picture.

Congratulations @snakebit, the 1851 is my favorite. And the Slix Shots were a good choice. Get her well cleaned of factory gunk, lightly oil, and have fun. Lots and lots of info on this here.
Thank you. Hopefully I can get all the mowing done and other things and get a good range session in. I tried to talk myself into waiting for the new cones, but don't think I have the willpower.

Go ahead and use the factory nipples, you can expect a few cap jams with them. Just keep a metal pick handy to pop them out. Don’t want to hit you with too much tuning stuff right off, but down the road your new revolver will benefit from deburring and honing the hammer face and other internal parts, makes a difference for sure.

Advice taken and appreciated. I'm going to start looking for a good set of files and stones to do that. And watch Mike Belavue's (sp) a dozen more times to pick up some pointers.

You will love it. Just be sure to clean it really good before shooting it.
Be safe and have fun!

Yep. Invented a couple new cusswords, and cleaned her good with straight Balistol. That barrel wedge had me flustered almost as bad as putting my Ruger MK ll back together. 😬 But I got er figured out.

I used both cartridges and balls, but eventually stayed with balls. My old man fingers made it too time consuming and frustrating to make cartridges anymore.

Good luck,

R

I love my Uberti, 7.5" barrel is just a tad muzzle heavy but it shoots great groups right out of the box.
I tried making the paper cartridges as well but there is to much fussing around with them so just loading the powder and balls is easier.

Don’t go after the sights for a while. Shoot it enough to learn what it wants to be fed and where it hits before you begin removing metal.

Caps, cap maker, balls, mold, wads, springs, I think my free 1860 is done.
Dont forget the paper cartridge kit. Justin (Guns of the West) makes the best one.
Ciggy papers, glue, acetone, powder drop, hope I didnt forget anything Ive found along the way down the bunny hole.
