Here's mine:
In the early 70's I was a member of a BP club that rented land for our range. The range was a nice field with a huge berm 100 yards away from the shooting line. The club put up target boards in front of the berm and everything was great for a starting club. We shot there for a year or so having good interaction with the land owner. Protocol for that range was to check behind the berm before every shooting match. One day we went down range to check behind the berm and OH MY did we ever have a surprise. The owner place a horse tank and 1 horse or more (don't remember critter count) on the back side of the berm for his granddaughter to use. We contacted the owner and told him of our concern.....Here comes the DUMB: He said "Oh, not to worry you guys are just shootin muzzleloaders"! Unfortunately we lost the arguement with him and told him adios.
Anyone out there can challenge me to the idiot award. No names or references as to who the idiot is please!

Not really an idiot, but still funny ...

"Silk patch ... gives me an additional 20-yards." - Hawkeye, in The Last of the Mohicans.

FOUND IT ... yay!!! .... for if you LOVE that movie, as I do, here's a side-by-side analysis of:
  • What Michael Mann, the Director, wanted the scene to be like, regardless of what James Fenimore Cooper wrote, versus
  • What Mark Baker, the technical advisor (and he starred in a few scenes) advised that they do, versus
  • What was finally filmed ...
It is a hoot to read! Mark even trained Daniel Day Lewis in shooting, markmanship and loading a MZL on the run.

Muzzleloaders don't take a cartridge!!

Yes, not a single cartridge was used from the 1600's to 1865 during the entire era of military use of paper cartridges

Oh and just recently witnessed at one of my gun clubs, a guy shooting PAST another person at a 75 yard pistol pit.....as in one member of their group was standing downrange, almost next to the target stand, turned around and watching his wife or whoever shooting at said target at about 20 or so yards . OK pal not only does this violate every safety rule, standard, guideline etc since the beginning of recreational shooting but also you're hoping that she doesn't have a bad "flyer" and split your dome with a 9mm......because I guess standing alongside or behind her is just not good enough........I'm like, not my circus not my monkeys and kept driving by on my way out

We have met the enemy and he is us......my range will probably get shut down some day because someone will get killed making a TikTok video or something

I just don't like muzzleloading. All the gooey grease , fooling with those Patches ,and dirty black powder with the odor , and smoke. ( Same guy that said this , was in the basement of his house going to clean his TC rifle. Evidently , he forgot to unload the gun . He successfully pulled the maxi ball from the bore , and reinserted the ram rod into the bore w/o dumping the load of powder . He snapped the flint lock , the r/r went through the ceiling , into the bedroom ceiling above. ) No one was injured , and he quit muzzleloading. .........

once had an idiot tell me that a .44 revolver was so anemic he would be willing to stand down range at 30 yards and let me shoot him with mine and it wouldn't penetrate and would only bruise him....that I would have to be right next to him to kill with such an archaic weapon
I didn't take him up on it. Let him test that theory somewhere else.

Far too many people sneer at C&B weapons, relegating them to the past, considering them little more than glorified cap guns of their youth. I pointed to one such individual once that during the Civil War, alone, tens of thousands of people had been killed by such weapons only to be dismissed as not knowing history. I suppose he thought that metalic cartridge guns had always existed.

Alabama once restricted small game M/L hunting to .40 caliber and less. When I questioned a bunch of conservation officers about this they said " if someone is small game hunting with a deer caliber M/L and jumps a deer they will probably try to kill the deer out of season". I had killed a pile of squirrels with a loaded down .50 and quit small game hunting when the law passed, all I owned at the time was a TC Renegade.

I told them that if someone was going to take an illegal shot at a deer it would be with whatever they had in their hands from a 22 to a 12 ga with bird shot.

They have since changed the law to include any caliber M/L for small game. Deep down I suspect this is to allow hunters that happen up on wild hogs to kill as many as they can. Hogs have taken over some areas.
