Everytime I placed a wanted posting the SPAMMERS come out of the woodwork. The best one is "I have a friend that has one foe sale" Not registered on the forum, just an email address if that. GB or gunshows from now on.

Well, the classifieds might not have been the place to put this, but...

It's good that you can recognize a scam. Some folks aren't as lucky.

I string scammers along for a few days in a Tom Mabe-ish style, and then report them.

Fight fire with fire and laugh about it. I wish more of them would try to scam me!

LOTS of good members here to deal with. No auction fees or extended hassle here!

TEHO though, cheers!

Some years back, when I was unemployed for an extended period, once my morning job search routine was complete, I would mess with scammers on one of the online want ads sites. Whenever I had someone say they wanted to buy my $15 item and would have their agent arrange payment and shipping, I would, as does Dusty_Traveler, string them along for as long as I could. If nothing else, it kept them off someone else and gave me something else to do.

I’ve gotten a few, but it’s mostly from new members. I forgot what it states. Something about CAUTION this member is new beware of scam. Something like that. And the thing is, it’s mostly from a Wanted ad. And the new member states they are Supporting Member and Pilgrim

I’ve seen the warning too so it reminds me to be cautious. I’ve sold to a few of them and it turned out to be a great person. Buyer/seller beware I guess.

Its hard to say whats real or not but the first act of legitimacy is to join the forum and follow the rules about selling. There might very well be "a friend who has one for sale" but thats not the way this place operates so I would tell the "friend" to first come up here and show his darling face.

Everyone here was new once.

The ones to watch are the ones with slightly broken english n grammar and referring to a third party. I usual say sure send me pics, and the pics look almost like they were cut from a magazine or the internet equivalent.

that scam artist is across many forum sites. always, "i have this friend in Texas that has just what you are looking for"
if the "friend" is contacted he try's to get as much financial info as possible, and then says it will be shipped from another person. if pressed for pictures it is always a screen capture of the looked for item, but from a site like gunsamerica 10 years ago. think they must have a whole data base of those pictures.
what could go wrong?!!!
