Sent rifle to buyer and wonderful shipper managed to break front sight and bend the top rail down that has the aperture. I've already packed up a brand new sight to send but Lyman hasn't answered their phones as to a repair . It looks to me like it could probably be bent back into position. If not perfect the adjustments should still be able to get on target. I'm not a metal worker so my questions are, if anyone knows is this piece made of aluminum or steel and what are the chances of bending it without hearing the dreaded "tick". Obviously it would need to be unmounted and put in a vice. thanks for help.

Had that exact same thing happen on an unmentionable I won off gonebroker years ago. As I recall I was able to straighten it without a lot of drama. I seem to recall Lyman had the part as well. A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

I just confirmed with a magnet that the bent piece is NOT steel. I'm guessing aluminum. The screws are steel though.

I'm sorry you have to mess with this, #$@%^$%# shipping companies just don't care anymore! If it's not magnetic, it's aluminum. You may be the lucky dog and get it to bend back but I'm thinking it's gonna' crack when you do it.
