Honestly, going by reviews and info on here, Uberti can have some issues with the Pocket models

A first Colt? Meaning not a first cap and ball revolver?

I'd say a good first Colt would be something like a Pietta .44 Navy or 60 Army...... At least you can be pretty certain it will be out of the box ready to shoot, just wipe it down and off to the range.....

A 1851 Navy seems to be the standard to which other models are compared. That would be my suggestion tho my personal favorite Colt is the 1861 Navy. The grips on pocket models are a bit too small for me & I do nor have "bear paw" hands.

The 1851 Navy in .36 was first and liked it so much I got a 1860 Army. Now I can't decide between an 1861 or 1849...

Between the two I currently find the 1851 fits my hand the best and I enjoy shooting it the most. I like the styling of the 1860, the frame just feels large in my hand.

What he said for sure. A small gun like that for a first will lead you to much frustration.

You need an 1861 Navy, it has the 1860's streamlined look and the 1851 Navy's grip frame. It's a .36 caliber.

I will say my lil 1949 is one of my favorite to shoot. It is a PIA as far as loading considering larger ones. It has limited space for powder so its NEVER gonna be a magnum. Mine is not terribly accurate but enough so to be a favotite to take out. They move well here on the forum, you can always upgrade.

The main strength of the .31's is they can use .320 buckshot, and you can feed them forever on 5lbs of 3f and a sack of shot as long as you have caps

But no one that sells lead shot ever has any anymore so it's a moot point
