Looking for a basic, affordable possibles bag for hunting and woods walks. My current bag is a OD green ChiCom RPD drum magazine shoulder strap pouch, functional but horrible out of place. I'm liking this one from Jedediah Starr Trading Co. .Any input on quality ? What is a 3 in 1 accessory pocket ? -Thanks

Possibles Bag

I have a bag that looks very similar and the leather is very thin. It holds stuff, but is not as nice to use as a stiffer bag. Not by a long shot.
I don't recall where I got it or what I paid. Probably Fleabay after I got my first ML not really knowing what I was getting or where the extra money was going towards.

I know custom bags by artisans are big bucks, which is why I buy off the rack. I think you'll be much happier in the long run with this one

I can't afford a bag for each gun, so just switch out the accoutrements as needed.

Buy the elk and mule deer hides in the for-sale section do a bit of research or better yet look at others bags and make your own. Also you will have plenty of leather left over for ball bags, flint wallets and perhaps a pair of mocs.

Don't think you'll find another for less. For only $30 bucks it's worth a gamble. Not sure about the 3 in 1 pocket unless it's just that the inside has dividers. Just be aware of the thinner leather as @Comfortably_Numb said.

Not sure what you mean by "affordable", but if you go to most second hand stores, they have a section devoted to women's purses. They are often of good quality and can be had for five bucks. You might have to work to get the smell of perfume out of them, but for the price, they are pretty hard to beat. Failing that, you can make one out of leather, canvas or an old BDU jacket which would have extra pockets already installed.

An Army surplus "butt pack" works pretty well too.

Narc.......I second what you did on the C.Crow pouch. I wanted a large pouch ,so I could be stupid, and carry too much stuff. Love the pouch , the price was good , It was a large belt bag , put shoulder strap on it , and replaced the flap , so I could hide a small powder horn under the flap in a water proof position. The bag worked out well , was hunting with a .62 cal. long rifle ,and carried a too large , loading block , with 10 prepatched round balls. When I made the shot on a deer , only one shot needed ,and still had all that stuff in my bag to carry back to the truck...........oldwood

As you can you’ll really want multipal bags. Toys come in at the bottom of a budget, and many of us suffer from that Lackocash syndrome
I would say check out Ox Yoke, very well made bags. I have one that’s near fifty.
Also track of the wolf custom bag, or Turkey foot trader.
If there is a black powder event near you it’s worth going and see before you buy

There are things that I don't mind spending money on like tools and gun kits. Then there are other things that are painful for me to spend money on, like bags. Actually any accouterment. Anything I can make, I make. I'm generally by myself when I shoot, so there's no one to give accolades for something nice or criticism for something that isn't.

I second the idea of getting the materials, leather, cloth, whatever you like, and make it yourself. My first kit also came from crazy crow,( see photo) after that I made several bags-hunting pouches ball amd tool bags, fire kits etc. Theres plenty of written instructions and the best part about the muzzleloading community is folks are always willing to help out. Do some research, and start stitching! Good luck!

I did splurge $60 and picked up a Canadian shooting bag by October Country. It's pretty nice quality, too. And I like the small size.

I'll have to look into those kits being mentioned. Maybe put some of my leather tools to work.
