Today I filed the front sight dovetail.

The best aspect of this thread, besides reading about others experiences with the same affliction, is that I feel almost compelled to be productive in relation to my sport. That hasn’t been typical of my track record… I used to practice and prepare a couple weeks in advance of the season with my unmentionable. Flintlocks have been the exact breath of fresh air I needed and this forum is encouraging.

So, today I cleaned my rifle after three days of intermittent plinking and lubed thirty or so patches to replace what I burned up. I am on the board today!

:)

Not a thing yesterday, but today it's supposed to get up in the forties and only be breezy, so I'll be heading out back with my trade musket. I might shoot the .32 KY, too.
Pretty excited to shoot today. It's been over a week.

I had a small box of pure lead battery terminals that I melted down into 5 1/2 pounds of pure lead to later be sold to someone who needs lead. The ingots are amazingly soft. I already have enough cast round ball to last my lifetime I think.

While participating in grave marking ceremony for American Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Citizen of the Republic of Texas, James Lemmon, I was also able to participate with the Color Guard firing a musket salute. My Pennsylvania long rifle was loud & proud.

This child surely does enjoy seeing all the beautiful new rifles and smoothbores y'all are building. One of the things I've learned (painfully) is that I am skilled at turning a $300 piece of fine Curly Maple into $3 worth of kindling faster than I can save the plew to buy more. I can do many things but my inleting always looks as if I did it with a blunt tomahawk from 20 feet out. I own and use some excellent long guns, every one of `em a center shooter, every one of `em built by somebody else. You skilled gun builders have my respect and my envy too.

Took Mr. Crockett out back and had a talk. Only 7 shots for now. Mr. Crockett and I have a difference of opinion on what's the best sights. I sternly warned him its going to be my way or the highway.

Have a Tom A Hawks peep on the way so no need in doing any more today.

I know enough to not even try. Not everyone has the gifts that are required to build a gun. I can shoot 'em and fix 'em but do not have the patience and skill needed for the wood working.
