I finally got my stock rebuilt after it failed and was able to take a few, (7)shots with my 4 bore this was shot #3, with 350 gr ffg equivalent of pyrodex and a 1750 rb. I gotta get some real bp.

Yep , definitely looks like you could use some real bp.( That was one helluva hang fire) lol.

That gun looks like way to much fun!
And range trips sound painful on the shoulder with that large of a ball and powder charge!

Seriously, tell us about your 4 bore. Where did you get the barrel? What kind of wood is that? Must be tough to stand up to that kind of recoil.

I got my first flintlock when I was 17, long before the internet and no one to guide me. I filled the pan heaping full of powder and get hangfires like that. I sold the gun before learning my mistakes.

Made it all my self barrel is 4130 chromolly made on my lathe, rifled by hand and all the parts are hand filed. The stock is scarlet oak I milled on my sawmill. My first stock I decided looked too fragile, my second stock was Siberian elm and shattered while proofing.

I can't imagine shooting a 4 bore. I shot an 8 bore when I was much younger, and was told how to hold it properly. After 5 shots, that was enough for me.

Recoil isn't too bad but after 7 shots my head was thumping and I had what looked like a bunch of hickies on my shoulder from blood getting pushed to the surface of the skin
