Is there a book that lists all the different c&b revolvers?

I just want to learn more about them.

How to identify them.

Right now they all look kinda the same to me.

I’d like to learn more about them myself!

Will take more than one book. Always those pesky exceptions. Think about it. All the ‘period’ manufacturers, then all the reproduction manufacturers over about a 175 year time period.

I’d suggest doing an online search for each manufacturer, Colt, Remington, etc. Do this as a PDF search and you’ll probably have more success finding good technical information and find references to the books used. There is no one book that I know of to recommend. It will take several.

In modern replicas and reproductions following are two books I like.

A paperback book by Dennis Adler, " Colt Blackpowder Reproductions & Replicas " published in 1998 by Blue Book Publications. Excellent color photography. An update was probably also published. The 1998 book has an extensive information and helps with identification. Some information is on Remingtons and the Ruger Old Army. The book also lists makes, models and pricing for revolvers, pistols, rifles and shotguns which is about 70 pages of the book. Trivia: A 2nd Generation Colt 1851 Navy I sold to Dennis Adler is pictured in the 1998 book.

Going way back author Sam Fadala authored a paperback " The Black Powder Handgun". Has many b&w pictures; Sam shoots and discusses revolvers and pistols.

On the internet a great deal of information is at Cap and Ball Revolvers

The above scratches the surface of available information.

In original 1800's Colt revolvers an excellent book is " '51 Colt Navies " by Nathan Swayze.

I think there's a book about black powder guns that includes the repros, don't know the exact title, but it's out there somewhere! (?)

I just want to be able to look at something like this, and know what it is.

Allegedly this is an original found in an outhouse a long time ago.

And refurbished in 1965.
