I've been searching for photos clearly showing the notches filed into rear sights on original rifles (1770s to 1830s, or even close to that period) and have been almost completely unable to find anything. Does anyone happen to have such a photo or an original rifle they could take a photo of? I'm interested in the different notch shapes used and exactly what they looked like relative to a modern reproduction.

Thanks much in advance!

The ones that I have seen were simply a "V" notch filed in. But I have no way of knowing if that was origonal or done later by some one for their own use.
