How does this gun work? Any ideas? I know it’s a breech loader so if it’s not allowed, I’ll delete.

I know nothing about it. A friend in Michigan sent me theses pictures. He works in a museum and they got some guns. They only wanted the Michigan guns. This was made in PA.
The first bolt action?
By looking at the pics, I'd guess the lever rotates to 90* then up to vertical. Pulling it back should open the chamber for a paper cartridge. Close the action, cap on nipple, boom. Totally guessing here. Really cool looking piece. Thanks for sharing the pics.

It looks kinda like it's derived from a Swiss Veterlli but probably not????
