We got a carpenter remodeling and there are scraps of 3/4" plywood lying around. I suppose I could make a few more short starters. Does a person really need more than one?

This morning it was -5 outside according to my car's external thermometer. Decided to take my "Yellow Bird Gun" out and shoot at a close target to minimize my time in the cold. Yeah, I know, I'm gettin' to be a wimp in my old age. In any case, the target was a carton of almond milk that I mistakenly left out last night. It was an accident. Really. I put it out at about 10 yards. The YBG is a modified T/C New Englander/Grey Hawk equipped in the video with a 12" .50 caliber Grey Hawk barrel. The "ramrod" is just an extra-long short starter that hangs on my muzzleloader's necklace. Load was 30 grains of 3f Old Eynsford black powder under a patched round ball. Looking at the video, I'm gonna have to start paying more attention to my gun handling. I didn't actually point the muzzle toward my head, but I was kinda gettin' close I think. This potentially dangerous mistake is probably one of the reasons that T/C never came out with a gun this short.

I always enjoy watching hangfires and misses.
It brings out the realism :ghostly:

But it's like I told someone, the pics are of my better groups, not the bad ones ;)
Yeah, I considered posting the "out takes", but then people would hear me cuss and know what a terrible grouch I have become over the years... ;)

Today decided to take out the Pedesoli Brown Bess for a few rounds along with my Krag Jorgensen and of course the out door range temp was in single digits. The Bess at first was showing a long lag time from pan to ignition. I was using 4F in the pan and 2F for ignition. I did shoot supported with the aid of a stand. After two rounds it was equaling out. The Bess was in the car a few hours prior may it was just too cold. It was cleaned prior and the touch hole was clean. I figured the weather. Anyway he is a slow mo of that delayed ignition.

Here is a regular speed on the third shot lag time was almost nil shooting unsupported . Its one heck of a cold day today, but well worth the fun. All total shot her 12 times had to wipe the barrel after the 6th round. Shot at only 50 yards, its only my third time shooting it, gotta start off close and work my way on distance as I improve.

Finished the powder measure I started yesterday. I wasn’t able carve/file a very good circle around the lanyard hole, but it will have to do for now. Might try some darker coloring in the rings, but not today. One photo is before staining.

Looks pretty good! What did you stain it with?

Decided to try and make the magic happen again this morning. Took a T/C Renegade flintlock .50 caliber with a Barnes unmentionable in an unmentionable to shoot at a water-filled plastic cat litter container that was placed approximately 125 yard out. 70 grain charge of Old Eynsford, 250 grain bullet. I missed, but you can see the snow splash just under the target at the crest of the hillock. There were some gusty winds, which is no real excuse. Tried again with different powder charges, but failed with those as well. I guess you can't get 'em all.

A good clean miss, Mr Dale Allen Raby. I like an honest man. No cleaning up this morning, and that target is there for next time; go back inside and wait for the thaw 😃. Very entertaining. Thanks.

Pete

PS Reminds me of a European hunter's prayer that goes something like this: "I pray for a good clean shot, or a clear miss ..."

It always amazes me how the camera shakes when a gun is fired near it.

Received a CVA squirrel rifle, bought on this forum, and fondled it after unpacking. My wife took it and fondled it more. It is a .32 caliber and will be perfect for her. She is not very big nor strong. So, she has something to shoot that is lighter and will have less recoil than her .50 CVA Frontier rifle. I sent a PM to the seller thanking him for a great transaction, then I touched up some light abrasions in the blue. It looks very good now, and Betty loves it. Happy day.
