Good, Lord.

That's worse than trying to adopt a pet.

The OP has a right to be PO'd.

It's as if they don't want campers using the campgrounds.
Agreed. A waver is one thing, but that one is over the top ridiculous. I still would not take an $800.00 hit over it but I most likely would be finding other places to bed down in the future.

I guess that's why I just stick to local clubs and smaller events. They haven't been ruined by the few for the many. I might venture a state or two away and camp for 2 to 4 days at most and when I camp it's not in a motorhome or camper (not that it's a bad thing) it's called reenacting for a reason for me and I prefer the experimental archaeological aspect of the whole experience.

That's the kind of money you have to pay to camp down there for the two shoots. They priced me out of attendance a couple decades ago.
Yeah, that's a shame for a primitive camp site but they'll probably get it. I know around my area in the U.P. you need to make reservations for most camping a year in advance and most campgrounds are full all season. My comment was just about signing an R.O.L. just to be clear, not about $.

I am only in my second year with NMLRA and have realized this organization has priced me out of camping on the grounds. If I ever attend one of the shoots/activities, I will camp offsite and travel to the shoot. I looked forward to meeting folks there and making new frUnfortunately, iends. I'm not sure that's possible now.

well, i see that document generation fees are what still drive the lawyer's vehicle today as they did when i practiced! wordy bugger.
and none of the verbiage surprises me. i made it through page 5 before my eyeballs rolled back in their sockets!
Go to Disney Land and read the tiny print on the back of your tickets. could be written by the same shyst..... er Lawyer.

There is a State Parke not far away that a lot of people take advantage of. I hear it's nice.

Sounds like the NMLRA is in a Catch 22 situation.

If it follows the advice of the lawyer to protect the organization, folks are not happy. If the organization does not protect itself, and it is sued, costing millions in a lawsuit, the members are going to find fault with the organization. So what would be the correct thing to do? If it was your business, what would you do?

Costs. Wonder what the costs are to maintain just the camping areas for 12 months? Wonder what the cost is to maintain the rest of the acreage? Think the total acreage is about 300 or so.

I understand Robin is unhappy about something he found in the document, but he didn't go into detail. If "release of liability" is the issue, I have to say I'm fine with that. I've camped around the country and attended a lot of rallies with different groups. Liability releases have been pretty standard even though ( or so I've been told...) most of them are so poorly written that they have lttle or no standing in court. As 1950Dave points out, litigation and "waiting for a settlement" has become a way of life for some people. I'd hate to see some Gomer come to Friendship and decide he sees a fat settlement coming if he gets a lawyer off "WhoCanISue.com" and the Association finds itself spending thousands of dollars in court cases. At that point, folks will be coming on here demanding to know why the Association didn't protect itself better. Perhaps someone who has a copy of this document will post it, or provide a link.

Absolutely correct Don, and if damage or injury can be directly linked to negligence on the part of the organization that person has standing to sue for recovery regardless of a signed release. Now if that person harmed was so as a result of their actions then yes the release is valid.

Just thought I’d jump in and say nothing says you have to stay 18 days and foot the $800 bill. I just arrive early Friday morning and stay till Monday afternoon.
For me, that’s plenty of time to hit the vendors and get in the matches I want to shoot. By then, I’m ready to leave. I have my Wrangler set up to sleep in and between that and the rustic showers, I’m good. I do enjoy the people though, especially some of the old timers.
Costs me all of $90, plus the $45 shooting badge. Don’t think I could get a hotel for three nights for that even if there were any close enough. Plus gas money back and forth, plus having to haul my shooting gear around as the parking at the range fills up early, especially the first Saturday.

The costs were published in the December Muzzle Blasts. They gave over 60 days notice. They gave the option of paying monthly to help with the costs.

Cost included shooter registration for both shoots.

FDF,
I can’t put my hands on my December issue at the moment, but unless things have changed since last September.. shooter fees are not included in the camp fees.

Not only was the shooters fee not included camp fee…for the Primitive camp ground (tent) must be paid at the Primitive gate not in the office across the road.. cash only.🥴

I stayed one night in the Heritage camp ground ($40) the remaining time was in Living History Area ( primitive side) that was $70 for the week.. Shooters fee was another $50.. if I’m not mistaken.

Plus additional fee for the woods walk & targets..

I can see the $100 bills floating bye….

IMHO The entire facility could use a face lift…
Especially the “modern” side camp ground of Friendship …

The older trailers setting on blocks are definitely an eye sore…
Just another members opinion…👍

You're breakin the rules pard. If they find you sleeping in your car they'll kick you out. Been there, done that.
What annoys me, is you have to pay $50 shooter's fee then pay $4 per match, or is it $5 now? That's enough to keep me from going back there and have some good times on the skeet range. I used to burn a pound of powder a day on the skeet range.
AND, they wouldn't let me camp on the skeet range, for any money, even on an unused camping site. I guess you have to be one of the swells to do that.... So, if it was raining and the creek was too deep to drive through, I couldn't shoot skeet for one or several days.
LOTS of things that Pee me off about that place.

I just saw a revised version of the agreement was posted on the NMLRAs FB group.
$800.00?!!!!! For WHAT?!
It's $700 a year for a camper with electric. It's $30 per night electric, $40 with sewer. $15 a night for primitive. They charge $50 for the entire event in the primitive area.

As for us, we are not in agreement and refuse to sign. Therefore, we will not camp and the NMLRA will not be getting our up-front nonrefundable fees for the spring and fall shoot of approximately $800. I hope others will consider doing the same. You can also express your displeasure by emailing the BOD at [email protected].
Can someone explain these camping fees?

The way I read it, it's like $25/$35 a night to camp there:
https://www.nmlra.org/camping
Evidently if you want to leave a camper there year-round it's like $700.

I pay like $110 a month (over $1200 a year) to store my RV here where I live. $700 seems like a pretty good deal?
