Poo Poo Pietta!

I purchased an Pietta 1858 Remington clone from Cabellas in October. Out of the box It was shooting 2 inches to the right at 25 yards. I had to drift the sight over about 1/8 of an inch to correct the wind age, I thought the front sight was bent because looking down at the barrel the sight is leanning to the left, however with closer inspection its obvious that the dovetail is milled out of plane. I'm waiting on Cabellas to call me back. Let the poop show begin!

Does Cabelas stand behind their guns? Anyone I have used has a no return policy.
I would have called Pietta. But that's me.

I have a Smith carbine also built by Pietta that is the exact same way. Maybe their dovetail cutter is set up out of whack.

I sent Pietta an email today. It's my understanding Pietra now owns a company in California that does warranty work. I sent them an email also. Cabellas said Tiffany luck! Contact the manufacturer.

I pulled the sight out and used a micrometer to measure it. The dovetail looks ok. Now I'm thinking the barrel is clocked to far to the left looking down the sights
Definitely has a lean to it.

If you put a dollar value on your own time this Pietta will have cost you more than a custom built muzzle loader by the time you are satisfied with it.

Stamped 2022 under the barrel

Well it’s a shame. I’m glad I have the ones I want with no plans to purchase more.

I have heard others complain about quality of post 2019 products both here and abroad. Some even using the abbreviation PC (pre covid) as a selling point. I cannot see a remedy to your sight issue that does not involve a custom made one to fit an enlarged, straightened dovetail.

Could you not just put two blocks of wood in a Vice, and turn the barrel straight?

This...Antonio over tightened the barrel in the frame. Make a hardwood block that fits tightly in the cylinder window, back the frame out & re-tighten to top dead center...Make sure to tighten the barrel in the vice as close to the frame as possible. I've done this many times with Remington & Colt SAA's and other solid frame replicas.

I rebarreled a S&W Victory revolver in my garage with a vice , wood blocks and a rubber mallet. And I have the gunsmithing skills of a rock.

Easy fix , wait till you get bored and just knock it out .

I said the same thing, but I'm watching Hell on Wheels again and now I need a brass frame 1860 Army and a rig for it......

My 2019 Pietta Remington does not have a dovetailed front sight. That's something new for Pietta.

Your photo looking straight at the muzzle seems to show the sight blade leaning on its base.

Guess i misunderstood. If the dovetail is ok and its just incorrect barrel alignment, the fix can be fairly easy. I use good oak blocks in my HD Vise and a 18" piece of oak that just fits thru the frame as a wrench. May be easier to unscrew the barrel completely and use an automatic center punch to raise the barrel edge to get it to seat right, I find it easier to align barrels putting them on than trying to back them off. Finish with a small concealed witness mark when happy.
