I’m bored over the holidays and have been tinkering and cleaning a few of my muzzleloaders. I have a desire to get a .62 (20 gauge) smoothbore trade rifle. Expensive and tough to find here in Canada. Wondering if anyone has replaced the barrel on a Kentucky flintlock with a smoothbore? Is there a replacement barrel out there that there that would be a drop in?

Yes, Bobby is the man to answer a question like this. Call early, 8 AM, and let it ring. He's a really busy man so don't be discouraged if he doesn't pick up, just try again. He's old school, no answering machine, no web site, but he is "The Man" when it comes to muzzle loader barrels.

As I’m in Canada not sure if I’d just be wasting his time calling him as I likely couldn’t get him to do any work and ship me a barrel. Shipping back and forth to the US is crazy priced.

You guys up there in Canada are really screwed when it comes to gun stuff.
Great that the government there is so concerned for your “safety”.

Colerain got back to me and they could do a .54 cal smoothbore "floor lamp Column" and ship it to me in Canada. I can drill and tap/install the flash hole vent liner here. What would be an appropriate front site for this? a bead?

I could make it look something like this brown bess by extending the barrel past the nose cap. That portion would be octagon to round.

This sounds like a most interesting project. I'm thinking about a similar project with my T/C Hawken.
Well being a pensioner buying a trade rifle or even a kit isn't in the cards right now so I thought this might be a way get me a smoothbore on a budget. I think it will be a great rifle for small game! I'm hoping it fling a PRB pretty good to!
