I wouldn't line it with anything. If you do and they get soaked, they won't dry out at the same rate and you risk rotting the bear hide. Dressed buffalo robes were worn hair in and flesh side out with some painted. Look at Bodmer and Catlin paintings to see how Native Americans did it. Capotes are blanket coats and I would not call a bear hide coat anything but a bear hide coat.

Well, I've got a little of it ready. The cape had to be made in two pieces and sewn down the middle, the hide just wasn't big enough to do the fold thing like the blanket.
I decided to back the cape with a brown canvas rather than the blanket material just because of the weight.
Plus I decide on some fringe around the outside of the cape just for show.
After the skin and the canvas are sewn and reversed I'll most likely have to trim the fur around the edges just to clean up the look.

Sorry to butt in, love all these projects, definitely giving me inspiration. I’m trying to gather the supplies to make my first capote. I was gifted a wool blanket. I’m about to order a pattern. Can anybody recommend what size yarn I should get?

The yarn on the outside of the capote, cross buck, or blanket stitch is just
decorative. The inside stitching, sleeves, collar, cape, and hood need to be sewn with something a bit stronger faux sinew, etc.
The decorative yarn is just standard wool knitting yarn.
I'm rather at a standstill right now on the capote, it's all cut and ready to sew but I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel and had to set it aside for now.
