I've gotta say, this is by far the friendliest, most helpful forum I've ever been on so far!

I've got a couple of Sam Fadala's books on interlibrary loan right now, and traditional muzzleloading is just fascinating. My grandpa shot flintlock occasionally back home in Armstrong Co., but he was the only one who tried bp.

I can't see giving up my love of my eclectic mix of cartridge guns, but this is really cool!!

expatriot..........Notice something about the m/l er adventure , there are two things afoot here. One is the raw m/l science , the other is American history. There's actually more to it than just that , but everything can be absorbed and used if taken in small bites. History......Ft. Cumberland , Md. , was the staging area for Armies , and Geo. Washington , who was instrumental in pressuring the French out of the Ohio River system , while the pacifist Quaker govt. of Pa. , sat on their hands trying to politically deal with three Indian tribes. Fort Necessity National Battlefield is just across the M.D. boundary , in Pa.. All these events were predicated on force of arms , m/l arms. Also , a great post 1800 hunter lived and wrote about his life in his diary......Meshack Browning , 44 Years A Hunter. His book is a rare glimpse , into frontier life , around Friendsville , MD. . I grew up west of there , in Pa.. , and when young , hunted and fished in the Md. , Pa. , border areas there.
The entire state of Pa. has been a center for m/l gun building , again , throughout our Country's history. Everyone heading west , and south carried a m/l gun, for food and protection
Oh well , I'm glad you are interested in the m/ling world , and hope you continue..........oldwood
