At a gun show this weekend I found a Pietta made, Navy Arms Patterson revolver. Made in 1980

It had not been cleaned well so the action was rusty. The dealer didn't know anything about BP. So I got it cheap.

A couple of days in penetrating oil and then a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner was all it took to get it working.

I've had probably a 1/2 dozen of those over the years, all Uberti with charcoal blue. Beautifull guns. I never got to shoot any of them because I was always able to sell them for a massive profit on the internet. Money talks! If I find another I'm going to keep it.

Has anyone seen the movie The Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas where the actor Matt Letscher played the role of the corrupt army captain where he sports a replica Colt Patterson revolver? I believe that this is the only time I have ever see the Colt Patterson revolver depicted in a period movie. The flaw in the movie is that the year depicted is in 1821 and Samuel Colt did not patented the revolver until February 25, 1836. But that's Hollywood for you.

Check out the ballad of buster scrugs. New film on Netflix by the Coen bros it’s great and has a Patterson in play. Also the assassination of Jessie James with Brad pit has a colt Patterson. Both excellent movies that must be watched.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is kind of a good movie, but me, my wife, and several others I know found it to be very tragic, dark and depressing.
I am not an overly sensitive or snowflake-kind of guy at all, but I can do without ever seeing that one again. Kind of cast a pall over the rest of my evening.
“ Renegades “ is another western that is pretty dark. Dramatic.
Starts out with a peaceful, pastoral, family homestead with small children scene. The nice part lasts about 10 minutes, then things spiral downhill from there fast, with nothing good at all happening after that.

“ Legends of the Fall “ kinda wore me down, but it was better than the other two I mentioned above.

“ A Million Ways To Die In The West “ is a sort of comedy that is a good way to help recover from the trauma of dark westerns.

Most movies made recently are dark and depressing. A reflection of millennial mindset, is what I think.

I wouldn't recommend seeing "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" to my worst enemy. Probably the same for the other movies mentioned in the post above, but I haven't seen them.

Further evidence of a culture in rapid decline.

I think Renegades was pretty authentic and realistic of how brutal some times and places were on the frontier.
A couple of the episodes on the Scruggs movie were pretty illustrative of tragic choices people have to make when the options are bad and awful.

Pale Rider supposedly takes place in 1848 but Clint is sporting an 1858 Remington with the cartridge conversion.
