Old wood I'm there with you. I still hunt and hope to for many years to come. I'm 67 now arthritic, diabetic and heart attack survivor with 5 stents. Thankful to God am i! This past opening day 2022 of Indiana gun season it was cold and snowed. I shot a nice buck at about 830 a.m. my fingers were so cold and stiff I couldn't start field dressing. My son came up and field dressed and dragged my buck to the truck. He worries so much about me. I'm so grateful to have him as he is a purple heart recipient (roadside bomb Ramadi iraq) and father to my 2 granddaughters and chubby little grandson😁
I fill your sick like wise here. Thank your son for his service

Next time ask to handle the horn, which won't damage it unless you throw it against a wall. It is important to handle old original rifles and accouterments when you can so you know what the real stuff looks and feels like. Should you ever decide to make or purchase things you can craft them more authentically or make better selections for yourself.

Kentuckyish pistol barrel drum installed.

Drilling and tapping the for the nipple are way down the road.

Decided to shoot the Seneca 45 that shoots high today. Switched powder up to 60 grains 2F Goex with a swaged .440 ball and .015 patch with Hoppes BP Lube. burying the front blade in the bottomed out rear sight I finally as able to get it to hit point of aim at 35 yards. I only had a little time but this is as close to getting this barrel to shot accurately as I have been. May shoot a few more rounds tomorrow.

Sighted in my mentors rifle for the 2023 deer season with a proper hunting load. Yes I know it's too early, but I think he's trying to tell me something. He has trouble with recoil and vision now a days. Was quite the honor that he entrusted me to do this. 80grs Goex FFG, .018" pillow ticking cut at muzzle, TOTW mink tallow wiped onto patch strip, .490 home cast from T/C mold, old Remington #11 foil covered caps. 10 shots averaged 1 and 3/8" high at 50 yards. The ten shot group measured 2 and 7/8" CTC at 50 yards. I then shot at 100 yards. He's good to 100 yards if he is up to the task. CVA Gamester Hawken 1-48" twist. Actually sad times for me. I know what is coming.

Removed the barrel on my Kibler SMR to inspect for rust, removed the old grease, reapplied new grease and waxed the barrel channel. No rust whatsoever after two years of shooting and cleaning with the barrel stocked.

Checked on a couple other rifles, ran clean patches and oiled patches down the bores.

Worked on the current build. Disassembled the double set triggers to get ready to work on filing a slight cant for inletting. Made a set of slightly undersized pins (a tip my teacher gave me for quick break down and reassembly during the build process).

Townsville is located in the dry tropics of North Queensland and is usually referred to as 'Brownsville'. This year, we are having a particularly good wet season, making the conditions verdant, wet and lush. A big thanks has to go out to Scotty👍, one of our Range Officers, who volunteered today to head out into sticky wet conditions to open the range for a few keen shooters. I added some dimension to the low cloud by blowing some smoke from my .54 Pedersoli Tryon. Given the extreme humidity and dampness, I was pleased not to experience a single misfire. That moisture really gathered up around the nipple and hammer. Now, to cleaning.

Kind regards, Pete

PS Not complaining mind, a great morning out - I see what some of you Northern Hemisphere lads and ladies have been experiencing in the cold and snow. Brrrrrrrrr ......... Respect.

I've been to Townsville a couple of times, last time 25 years ago. Nice shooting.

Yesterday 6 of us hunted with our flintlocks on my farm here in Pennsylvania and today we had to cut up 3 deer. Five of us are over 70 or will be 70 this year and the kid of the group, and new to flintlocks, is in his early 50's. Guess who did most of the dragging and driving.
