If you wouldn't mind, pls send me any info you have on Joe Woods and his coning too.l I am interested thanksRifle testing today, I had coned the barrel with a Joe Woods coning tool in .54.
I could thumb start a .530 ball and an .018 patch all the way in easily, before coning I had to pound in a .526 ball with an .018 patch. With the cone I could seat the ball with minimum effort, I believe I could have gone to a .535 ball if I wanted to
I started shooting and wasn't doing too well, I was chasing balls with what turned out to be a fairly loose back sight. Somehow, I had bent the front sight, I straightened it several times before I was satisfied with it. I was hitting left and low at 50 yards and had already drifted my rear sight as far as I was comfortable with so I gave the front sight a slight tap.
I was shooting 80 gr of 2F and shooting low with about a 3" group at 50 yards, I had trouble seeing my front sight.
I decided to bump my load up to 85 gr, BINGO!
I had a shiny front sight for the high shot, the sun came out couldn't tell exactly where the blade was, I had a spray can of sight black so I sprayed the sight and took two more shots, I think I can live with the results.
I have a GM drop in for a TC in .54, it too has a very tight bore, it is next one the coning list.

Inlet the lock on a “pre-carve” stock which took about five hours. Next will be the barrel, which will need to be moved back to align with the lock correctly.

I normally refill the horns when I'm done shooting to ensure they have powder in them next trip out. I went out last week, got back too late & cleaned the guns & that was all. Today, with a 100% rain literally ALL day here in KY, I used up the left over cans of 3 different types of powder to get the horns filled.
3 different shipments with muzzy stuff arrived today. From Midway got some patches and balls. From The Gun Works got some nipples, screws, and a hammer screw. Also got an envelope with a pack of shims for the hammer. Good Day!!! I think I'm ready to rock and roll now. Have the gun, 777 FFG, patches, balls, and caps and some cleaning manure. Let's do this!!!
Became a plaintiff (at considerable personal cost to myself) in a lawsuit against the State of Illinois/J.B. Pritzker in one of many 2nd A lawsuits to be filed in the next couple or three weeks from now.

got my new snowshoe bindings today. not very traditional but they work and I could afford them. tramped out a pretty good loop around my yard and the neighboring field. my shooting was just so so today. made some good hits and had some bad misses. visibility was poor as it was late in the day and snowing...

Finished sizing and pining the ram rod pipes on the SMR. Spent most of the day trying to get the ram rod to fit inside the stock. The hole in the stock was undersized more than I expected. I sanded down the diameter of last foot and half of ram rod to the taper of the tip. Took a couple of hours of taping pieces of 100 grit sand paper to the range rod and pumping for all I was worth! Of course the sand paper tore off several times so I made a small hook out of coat hangar to dig the paper out. But I finally got the ram rod to go in all the way and come back out properly.
