I noticed I have two holes due to wood breaking off in the inletting of my lyman deerstalker flintlock. To be honest, they have been there awhile but lately I have starting shooting more and wanted to ask about the safety of this gun with these holes. One is just forward of the pan and the other is back behind where the tang would insert. The lock still attaches snug to the barrel. Hopefully you can see them in the pictures. thanks for any input.

Pretty sure the barrel and bolster are preventing powder from getting in there. There's no grenade moment going to occur.

OP.

There's nothing wrong with your gun. It's just sloppy inletting. Millions of Italian and Spanish guns look like yours.

Button her up and shoot.

I think bedding compound is strong is compression but not sure about tensile, that is, filling up a void with compound may or may not strengthen the area- I don't know but off hand, I don't think there is an issue, just leave it be. Seems okay to me.
