So, I went to visit my parents for a late Christmas get together and breakfast this morning. (The whole family has been sick). As I was leaving dad asked me to come out to the shop, telling me that he had found something that might be of interest to me.

He came out with these two cans of powder! My jaw hit the floor. I was like holy cow dad!! Have you been holding out on me.. haha!

I will definitely put these to use or hold on to them as I do have some Graffs that I just bought.

Thought this would be a good share!

Anthony

That Elephant can is beautiful.

Do you see a date anywhere on the can?

If you ever decide to toss that can, please don't. Contact me first.

Thanks.
Yeah, I have never come across elephant. That stuff does not have the best of reputations but the packaging is very nice.

Depending on where Elephant sourced their charcoal, the fouling could be extreme. The powder was made in South America. Elephant was the powder that kept us shooting while the GOEX plant was being rebuilt after one of the explosions. Based on the fact that it was the powder most likely to be available, it was used a lot. We'd whine about the fouling, but shoot it anyway. The Mad Monk was working with Elephant to improve the charcoal, but about the time Elephant was locating groves of alder in South America, the groves were sold off and the company folded. I think it may be operating on a smaller scale under a different name. Uh, yes, I still have a couple of cans of Elephant. Great for making blanks for my reenacting adventures and the unit is out of Jack's Battle Black Powder.

I had similar luck! A hunting and mloading buddy by the name of Milton Proudfoot passed and I attended his sale. He had not been well for some time. His last trip to camp he told me he had some powder for me and would bring it next trip. He didn’t make it, I went to his sale and bought 9 pounds of powder for 60$…. I am set for life!

This thread made me wonder about the date code on Elephant brand powder cans. Placed on a high shelf in the garage I found two Elephant cans with a paper tag dated '92. Also found a plastic container of Black Canyon powder substitute and a Pyrodex plastic bottle. Several older Goex cans too.

I checked the Goex can and it has a 2002 date. Looking at those cans brought back a lot of memories of hunting with my Dad. It brought a perspective on why I enjoy this hobby so much.

As a matter of fact Elephant was made in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, but I guess it´s no longer made. I´ve tried to contact them twice, no answer.
