Thanks all !!!!!
Yeah, we don't bounce like we used to, that's for sure ! I cut my finger off in June on a table saw and cold weather and shoveling snow really reminds me of the injury.
I've always had a tendency to rush healing as well so you are well advised to take it easy until the bone is sound once more. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all!

I feel your pain - got in a hurry carrying stuff downstairs last Aug, skipped the last two steps and tore my quad off the tendon. Got it sewed back together and come early ml season, these outlaws i thought were my friends refused to cart me in to a blind on the tailgate of my truck. And my camo’d up wife was their ringleader!

Just ain’t right, keeping me out of the woods and tellin’ me it’s for my own good! And i already figured out how to use my upside down crutches for a set of cross-sticks for a shooting rest!

They walk through the camp regularly. I'll be with the boy's that is all that matters.
There are memories from hunting camp, many getting blurred together over the years. And then there are the stories that last for generations. I am willing to bet that if dear old dad went hunting with a broken leg and got a deer (or not), be it from the back of a truck, a cabin window or porch, or a lawn chair, the story would be told and retold for years. If your boys can and will fix you up in a hunting spot where you are not in danger of hurting yourself, I say go for it. The fire will be warm the rest of year. And there are only so many hunting seasons and opening days left…..

MOST important is doing the exercises to get you back to your original physical condition. Not just the therapy exercises for your injury. Exercise to restore your overall condition. Because you lost a lot of that during your injury and recovery. Been there and done that. And it aint easy.

Had my flintlock and gear ready for season this year, sitting in the corner. 2 days before start we got Covid. Wife got over it in 5 days, 6 weeks later I am still coughing. Had to look at all my gear the whole time!!
Good news is it is finally going away. I am vaccinated with 3 boosters , the rhuemetologist had me get extra boosters.
Oh well, next year.

Don

Well I had all next week scheduled for deer hunting with my son and fell down the attic stairs Monday night and fractured my Tibia. I'm am now in a full leg splint which immobilizes my entire left leg and unable to walk.

If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any at all. My son wants to drive out to the farm and let me sit in the back of the truck and hunt. I think I will just sit at the fire and hang out while my boys chase them.

Oh well it could have been much worse. For all you guys that will be out next week GOOD LUCK and stay out of the attic.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!
I’m guessing before the week is out there will be a lot of folks grateful for a warm fire. Your attitude warms me up. Happy holidays all ‘round.

Sorry to hear about your fall and disappointment. When my dad broke his leg years ago, he hobbled out to the field edge and sat on a bail of hay with his crutches and rifle. I thought he was nuts. Don’t you know he shot a 8 point buck. I still chuckle over that. Guess who did all the work!
Hope you have a Merry Christmas with your family and friends Jambuster

I'm sorry to hear that. Years back Dad fell helping unload opening weekend hunting gear, broke his fibia. My buddy and I built a hasty brush blind and he hunted opening morning on crutches.
Improvise, adapt, overcome!
Here's hoping your in the woods with your sons.

One more story. Dad's friend got tired of hoofing it over half of Colorado during elk season and stayed in camp 1 day. About 0930 he's sipping coffee by the fire when a nice elk walks by 20 yards away. When the rest of the crew got back he had 4 quarters hung and was grilling elk!
Get out there.

All this talking of broken bones caused me to remember about 60 years ago I let my alligator mouth run run away with my tad pole ass and I let my jaw run into this guy's fist at a beach fight. My jaw was broke and wired shut for about six weeks. I had to wear a string around my neck with a pair of wire cutters and hemostats to cut the wires if I got sick and had to puke. This board has caused me to remember many good and questionable memories in my life.
