Pretty sure I saw a post a while back where a guy had killed a hog with a BP revolver. I want to say it was a 36 caliber, but could just have easily been a 44. It was a BP revolver though.

Yes, I have. 1851 Navy for rabbits and such. 1860 Army, Ruger Old Army, dragoons and Walker for pigs and such. I generally load the cylinders full of 2f (a bit below the chamber mouth), seat a felt wad on top of that and then seat a pure lead ball of appropriate size.

Funny you should mention that. I was told i couldn’t hunt deer in Iowa with a Walker except during the modern firearms season, but not during a muzzleloading season “because it’s not a muzzleloader”. I just looked up the code for a friend re another issue and found that all handguns are now allowed during our late ml season, which starts soon. Alas, i don’t have time to get my 1847 out and get practiced up with it. Rats!

don

Here in the UNconstitution state, I am allowed to use a pistol for deer, providing I have a permit for the gun and I purchase the extra stamp for $5. I think the caliber has to be over 44, can’t use a .22. I have been threatening to use the 1858 Remington but have yet to do so. I have until end of the year, so maybe I will yet

Here it seems that a Walker would fit the bill, dont think Id want to fire my 1860 with 45gr in it.

WAC 220-414-060

(e) A muzzleloading handgun must have a single or double barrel of at least eight inches, must be rifled, and must be capable of being loaded with 45 grains or more of black powder or black powder substitute per the manufacturer's recommendations.

Not a walker, but one with a 58 Remington with a conical , one with a ruger old army, and one with the ruger conical out of a modern gun, at ruger black powder speeds. The old army deer was my longest handgun shot on a deer at 75-80 paces, and the same bullet in a modern gun was my second longest shot at 65 paces. Still looking for a volunteer to break in my uberti 60 army.
Get out and practice A LOT, then pick your shot carefully and post a hunting story and pictures here
