I took the Beast out for a spin, just to make sure we still understood each other. Two .54 round balls there from 40 yards in my west pasture. Now to find those dang hogs that are tearing up my farm!View attachment 180020

Final fitting of the lock/sear/trigger. Definite pucker time trying to determine which trigger surfaces need to be cut to allow for proper operation without introducing a floppy trigger.

Drill and tapped the lock plate for 10-32 screws. Waiting on a TOTW trade gun screw and pin set.

Deburred every lock part and sanded everything down. Ready for rusting.

She is now fully functional. The long road to stock shaping begins.

Last night I engraved a powder horn and today, I ran to get Rit dye and have stained the horn probably four times. It’s hardly taking the color. Grrr…

I also spent have the day reading old posts here as well. That part was good.

:)

Began squaring up the stock and flattening everything out. Stock nose cut.

Don't look at the fugly barrel tenons. I said don't look. Stop looking. Hot bee's wax will be applied after final assembly. It's a Christmas miracle that I got her pinned at all. Trying to drill a .094 hole through a .100 tenon is trying indeed. Glad it's over.

Will be cheating with the ramrod pipes. Yup! Screwed in through the bottom of the barrel channel. Millions of Spanish made rifles can't be wrong. A touch of Red Loctite and BAM! Never had one fail.

Sure could use that TOTW trade gun butt plate right about now. Get on it, Track.

I shot my .54 today in the rain which was a new experience for me. The first two shots were perfect. Ten klatches and three pans of powder and an alcohol swab later, I finally got the third to go off… and flinched. No spark. I decided that shooting in the rain, isn’t a dream.

It was fun to get out though.

Roughed in the stock.

One half of one wrist and one half of one lock panel roughed in. 20 swipes with a file. Followed by 15 minutes of staring at it. Trying to decide where the next 20 swipes will be.

Fore stock thinned. Couple of close calls. Overshooting the lines.
